Maybe not so much 'Shared Wealth' but perhaps an opportunity for you to share some wealth! :)

Every year since 2006 my partner and I have visited the same hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, more than once per year.
The staff we have met over the years have been hard working, friendly, genuine people the likes of which I don't generally encounter these days in the U.K.

Many of the staff members we have met have since become life-long friends of ours whether we still see them at the hotel or keep in touch with them, wherever they now are, through e-mail, phone or facebook. I'm sure that most holidaymakers who have travelled to Egypt can relate to this to some degree.
The nature and outlook of the Egyptians we have met, after spending 26 weeks in Sharm and the surrounding area, and the simplistic lifestyle have made a big impact on how we now view ourselves and our own life: so much so that we intend to move to Egypt to work and live.
Their fun-loving nature is all too prevalent when we dress up, day or night, around the hotel. It is surprising how much enjoyment can be gained from something as simple as a wig or a pair of crazy sunglasses.

My partner and I always try to take a multitude of items that may amuse, amaze or entertain the hotel staff. If other holidaymakers enjoy our antics then good for them. On our last trip we were asked by the head of the Animation (entertainment) team if we could source some items that could be used by his team to entertain the guests.
Items such as crazy sunglasses, glow sticks, flashing items, fancy dress outfits are very expensive to acquire in Egypt and difficult to source. It's not a simple case of buying things off e-bay as the postal service is so unreliable. Most of the items that they have acquired become damaged or worn out over time as they are used to such good effect.

This hotel has a lot of repeat guests and I would like to think that our efforts to bring new ideas to the place has prompted other holidaymakers to do the same, thus sparking the imagination of the Animation team.

The first time we visited Egypt we took some glow sticks and, seriously, many staff members thought that they could be burned by them, wanted to know if they could be switched off, were scared for me when I kept one in my bottle of beer.

We took an inflatable balerina outfit and gave it to one of the Animators for him to keep. The excitement, amazement, self-pride and self-confidence that he exhuded when he wore it for the first time and walked around the whole complex messing about was something I will never forget. A simple thing that cost us about £20 or so had given this man a new outlook on performing his job. On returning 4 months later he was devastated to inform me that a Russian had squeezed him when he had the suit on and the blower motor had stopped working. He had tried all he could to repair it to no avail. I brought the motor home and have fixed it and he will get it back in May, ready for more fun.

When I dressed as an injured man (in pyjamas) nobody questioned why I had pyjamas and slippers on but were seriously concerned for my well-being. This was by far the funniest outfit I have ever worn in terms of others' reactions to it. Naturally, I left many bandages behind for someone to else to benefit from the idea. This outfit was made up from stuff I had around the house plus a couple of cheap medical supplies.

We are travelling to Egypt again in May and will be taking a number of 'stupid' costumes and various novelty bits and pieces, many of which will be given away and enjoyed much more than we would enjoy them.

What I am asking for here is that if anyone has any unwanted items that may be of interest to these wonderful people then would you please consider donating them to me and I will ensure (at my own cost) that they will be delivered to a group of people that will appreciate, enjoy and be genuinely thankful for your generous contribution.

There is no exhaustive list of items that would be beneficial but I'm looking for stuff like:-

Wigs
Specs
Hats
Make-up / face paints. used or new
Glowing / flashing items such as glow sticks, flashing wands, boppers, etc
Fancy dress outfits for both sexes
Fancy dress props - head dresses, acessories, etc
Wacky clothes that are out of the ordinary for both sexes
Inflatable items other than stuff for swimming pools
Air horns / tooters / noise making devices
Any other ideas welcome as it's difficult to think of new stuff all the time

If you or your family members have anything (unwanted or unneeded by you) that may be of interest then please contact me by PM or post in this thread and I will contact you.
I will, of course, cover any delivery cost and even if you wish to sell something suitable then get in touch as I may be interested.

Here's a picture of some of the stuff we've taken over the years, all of which have had a great reception and most of which is no longer in my possession!

Thanks for reading and I hope you can find it in your hearts to donate some stuff that you no longer need.

OK so nobody wants to give, that's no biggie. Anyone got any ideas for 'stupid' outfits?

I've done: Borat, Britney Spears, Miss Moneypenny, Good-time girl and her pimp, zombie, sumo wrestler, hawaii girl, geeky holidaymaker, cowboy with ride-on horse, monkey, hospital/accident patient, surfer dude, probably others I can't remember.

For next time I've got baby on granny's back with a baby's bottle for my beer :), matador and flamenco dancer, dracula, zombie and hospital patient again (for out of the hotel or the posh casino over the road :)), scouser with original England 90s tracksuit (not the low quality 'fancy dress' suits), smurf of the dungareed variety, neon tutu and gloves... so anything goes really.

Any other ideas will be welcomed.

I've thought of doing:-
a redneck but I can't find blue dungarees: red checked shirt, straw hat, black teeth are no problem;
Beauty queen;
Prisoner - just need orange trousers to match my 'Pensylvania Psycho ward' shirt and rubber cuffs;
Hazmat suit - I've got a set of green oversized hooded overalls (who knows why) and just need some sort of welding mask / respirator / gas mask thing and a couple of stickers, though this could be something to leave there for their winter!

I'll also be taking some xmas stuff such as elf ear muffs, santa hats, flashing reindeer noses, probably my old elf suit and the Mrs' Miss Santa gubbins that we don't really need anymore and I can afford to replace if required. I'll need to have a look around the house as there must be other stuff here.

For the peeps over there I've got umbrella golf hats, female and male pimp outfits including custom made name medallion necklaces, female witch get up, glow stick baseball 'caps', assorted colour and holographic 'Lennon' specs, hand pump (reusable and non-gas) air horns, bunny ears, jester hat, hula skirts and leis, clown outfit, a wig or two, and numerous other bits and pieces.

One time I went on holiday I took 14kg of daft outfits which left me 6kg to play with for everyday stuff and 'normal' clothes. This time we'll need to book for an additional suitcase so don't be shy and have a look through your 'junk' and let me know if you have anything. The Mrs and me have quite good (strange?) imaginations so we will probably be able to come up with something that includes whatever you've got.

Once again thanks for reading and I'd be proud to tell any recipient(s) that whatever I'm giving them was donated by a friend of mine from the country that Egyptians think has the most polite and friendly people that they regularly encounter. :)

That's very kind. I'm sure the on-site kids' club would appreciate the outfits. I'll pm you my address.
