I have ordered a cold spec alternator which should be with me by midweek.

The job of removal and refit is too hard for me and my main Mann is tied up for the next two weeks.

I might be able to drive the car up to about 30-50mile radius from Birmingham. However, i do have a covered area where the work can be undertaken where i live. I have a 3 ton trolley jack and axle stands too.

So, please pm me with your quote for labour and possibly travel costs for undertaking this job!!!

As a last resort Jamil, I've done this once before on mine, I could do it with your assistance.

See if someone else can help you first :)

It's easy as long as you follow the guide!

Heh! Easy depends on what spec your car is. 80A is not so bad at all. 120A is a PITA. The alternators get wider as the power output increases.

Nicholas Horatio Mann I managed to slip the wider one in with a bit of faffing around ;)

I could do with a holiday round your sides!

Thanks Jase, and Nigel. The 120A is the problem. The jacking the engine up on the mounts and lowering sounds like the worst of it to me otherwise would have been brave enough to give it a try.

I am enjoying walking a lot at the mo and keep thinking of selling up. Bit cheesed off as yesterday i got a Notice of Intended Prosecution from Notts Police for doing 37 on a 30mph zone on the A611 last Saturday whilst picking up some juice for the rolling road. I think my Witch sister cast a spell on my car before she left my life as all sorts keep happening to me.....(including forcing me to drive fast?)

Interesting, mine was a 120A. Perhaps thats why it seems really easy for some people!

I didn't see anything. Lucky it was only 37mph after all........

Could always say left the key in ignition at the RR and some unknowns took it out for a spin whilst was otherwise engaged.

Thanks for the offer. Still waiting on the alt which i hope will come tomorrow. Sunday i am free after 11am but it sounds like you are stuffed.

You are welcome to have a go knowing the caveats about the monstrous size of the 120A but do let me know what you need!

Fingers crossed but i might have fixed my problem!!!

I got another 120A fuse from the dealers, changed a vlown 20A fuse for the rear fog lights and voila! the car started without the battery warning light and showed 14.2v!

So, need to drive it, leave overnight and check battery voltage.

If it works out then i will have a spare alternator.....
