Any tips on where to get insurance - I was with Elephant when I bought the car and it seemed reasonable at first, but went up by £50 when I told them I had the leather interior and another £50 when I had the lower suspension fitted, I think I'm paying about £450-£500 now and I'm over 30 (by more than I'd care to mention), have 5 years+ NCD and live in a low risk area. Anyone recommend any cheaper deals?

Try Lifesure, Adrian Flux, Osborne and Sons ......for more info use the search facility and will throw up many threads on this subject ;)

The V6 is much more predictable than the VR4. I used to do a search on confused.com and then used to make sure I beat it by a few quid!

Thanks guys, I'll try confused.com (I knew there was a website for me somewhere) and noticed that Lifesure seemed a good bet for VR4s.

I have just re-newed my policy with 'Quotelinedirect.com'. They put me with Zurich at a cost of £340 fully comp with protected policy. I am over 35 with 8 years NCD however my car is only a 2.0 GLS Estate. I am running 17'' alloys and I am planning to fit an induction kit and lower the suspension so I hope this does not put it up too much. (my previous insurance company wanted £560)

i'm 34 with Full N.C.B,i'm paying £340..ish with "more than" full-comp with protected NCB also ive told them about my 17" alloy's, suspension, induction and my duel's
i told them about some mod's when i first called them, they knocked me back at first then phoned me back to say they could insure my car, then 1yr later i told them about some other mod's :rolleyes5 they had to check with a supervisor before they would answer me..and when they said yes we can still cover you but it will add a % to the quote... ended up being £12 cheaper than the 1st yr
wait till this October?? they are going to tell me to "sling ma hook!" :lipsrseal

You lucky bastards...

I'm 22 and live in a high risk area (moving from cat F to cat D, but also from driveway to on-street parking). At next renewal will have 2 yrs NCB, and I have my IAM certificate.

Current estimates for next year's renewal are around £1100. And that's with a bigger excess than any of you and no mods, so quit moaning :p

enjoy your "cheaper" insurance. I am 28, low risk area, NCB, off-street parking and 9 points. Those 9 points equate to just over £1000.00.

i'd never moan (much) about insurance price's.....ive alway's had a habit of buying a car 1st then get it covered :rolleyes5 ..most ive paid was for a BMW 323i back in 1990,i was 20 yrs old and it cost £1300 for the year.
i like to get an expensive quote first then when i reach the cheapest quote i normally go for that one ,then tell my self "ive made a saving?" and when i tell the wife what i could have payed she calms down and unpack's her case's
yeah...getting old has it's good point's :D

Tescos are underwirtten by direct line, and (sorry if this turns into a rant) they are complete and utter tossers when it comes to modifications.:veryangry

When I had my GLS, I was insured with Direct Line at the time, and I wanted to change the knackered 14" GLS alloys for some Sport ones. The thread is here:

http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1065

Top and bottom was that despite the 17" sport rims being CHEAPER to replace at cost price that the standard 14" GLS alloys, the insurers wanted me to pick up the soap.... :rolleyes5 :rolleyes5

Insurance Companies are all tossers :gun2: :gun1: :io: I've spent the last 15 years bending over and picking up the soap on a daily basis :soapbox:

Another company to consider is First Alternative - as long as you can get past those dreadful michael winner adverts (it's just a commercial! :| )

I'm 24, 7yrs ncb, live in a low risk area and also have my boyf ensured too, all for £417

Not bad - I was with direct line with two years but they couldn't beat this quote!

Bal - what category postcode? They're continually above £1k for my details as at next renewal (23, 2yr ncb, IAM cert, no points) at cat D postcode.

Might have to give Zurich a try, since they arranged my mortgage and were cheapest for my house insurance.

I aint sure what it is but the postcode is OX2 0BL - it's right in the middle of oxford so, as far as i have been told, it is one of the more expensive areas of oxford.

elephant wanted £800
NUnion - 900

and tesco - 1020 !!

Elephant..

I was surprised myself.

I thought they'd put through a 2.5 v6 only... but i checked and made sure they had it down as a VR4.
