View Full Version : insurance group!

I tried searching but most threads with insurance group in are pretty low, so my question is this. Does anyone know what insurance group our cars are in? A recent advertiser listed his car as group 20, yet a v6-24 on parkers is listed as group 29, an Evo7 as group 44!! Are there two different group lists doing the rounds?

I thought group 20 was the highest? And before there were 20 groups I think it was only 9? Not aware of a new grouping system, but it wouldn't suprise me.

PArkers online car insurance group listings can be found here (http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/advice/car-insurance-groups/) the last celica is listed as group 27. Looks like they've spread them out a bit..

Absolutly no idea what grouping it's in. Wasn't the first thing that came to mind when i renewed my policy and never bothered asking. Surely it cant be that bad, afterall i only pay £225 a year for mine and i'm 31 with a writen off car on file.

Hahaha, my question exactly! I'm 40 but still pay a grand a year, also have a written off car from last year, probably get bonus points for it being a police car, wouldn't mind but I wasn't the one who hit it.. I wasn't really concerned in which group it is as I won't change it, more 'interested' like for bragging rights if you will!

That is an Extraordinarily low quote I would double check to ensure its deffo a VR4 they are quoting u fot..and not the N/A V6
And if it is the VR4 then who's insuring you

Wodjno Remember that Chris is way up in the Scottish Land of Far Far Away!
My brother moved to Aberdeen last year and he pays £210 to insure his 5 Series! It was even less for his old Mondeo!

Its a postcode lottery and it appears the more Scottish you are, the less you pay /lol

Is that because they know they can't afford it? ;)

Hahaha, i can see the jelousy oooooozing out the screen.

Yes i am in the far reaches of N.E. Scotland in an Inverness post code. Last year was paying stupid amounts of money for inssurance, round about the 1K mark. Twas a simple meerkat that found me the new deal through Hastings Direct, and yes the policy is for a vr4 not a n/a v6 (i just checked cos you got me worried, Wodj you bad man).

Happy hunting.

So why have the changed this? To charge us more money?

If the V6 is group 61 then what would the VR4 be

nicked from parkers

Thatcham, the motor insurance repair research centre, is behind the new groups and explains that the old 1-20 bandings were too narrow to reflect the true cost of repairing certain models, especially more niche cars such as small people carriers and off-roaders. Now, the revised 1-50 groups will more accurately reflect how much a car costs to repair following an accident.

Most cars will see their insurance group roughly double. For example, a Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCi ECOnetic three-door hatchback goes from group 4 to group 11.

According to Thatcham, as a general rule if the group has roughly doubled then premiums will not change drastically. If the change is more than double, your car could cost more in premiums, and less than double means insurance will probably be cheaper.

The new groupings went live on January 1 2010 following a two-year period when insurers were introducing them alongside the old system.
