I'm going to be starting to use the Legnum as more of a daily driver now, and as such I don't want to end up changing the oil every couple of months - as part of my job I'll need to be driving up to 300km a week. That will end up adding up quite quickly in terms of oil and filters - not to mention my petrol bill.

I know Kenneth ran Amsoil for up to 25,000km without changing, and Jeremy (CANDEE) mentioned Amsoil, so I've had a look at them and was thinking of going for the ATM 10w30 or ASL 5w30 - it seems that price for the oil has dropped here considerably so it's only a bit more than the Castrol Edge I was using (as that's gone up in price now too!!!).

What would be the best oil for extended drain intervals though? I was considering changing oil every 10-15,000km.

Mine had Amsoil 5W30 in for 14~ months, oil did come out black but silky smooth, given it had a hard life there were absolutely no problems. Highly recommended :)

Amsoil. AZO 0W-30. Beautiful oil. Should last very, very long. It's just a few months on the market but given it's predecessors it is of extreme quality and durability. Probably the best oil on the market today.

I've had the AZO 0-30 in mine for 3000miles now and the engine has never been quieter, tappets included. The oil is still golden Brown as well. Did run an engine flush through first though so that may have helped.

hey, anyone in nz got a price for the amsoil 0w-30 and do i need a 4 or 5l? and where (shop) can i get it from? repco and sca only seem to advertise penzoil, castrol, valvoline and shell and they own branded ones. cheers.

Wang, hit up Wayne at Hill Cars in Chch, as they are the importer. :)

The retail for 5l and a filter is $184.50, but if you are a club member you can get a discount as well.. ;)

25,000km without changing? Holy smoke. The castrol edge sport that I use has gone up about $20. Amsoil time

Mike - that's why I'm looking at Amsoil. For twice the amount of kms you only spend a bit more.

I'm going to get myself some too, castrol edge can go in my other car. I had heard 10,000kms but never 25,000kms

for the $184.50, does that include a amsoil filter? or a repco or supercheap filter?

We did 25,000KM on Amsoil oil AND Amsoil filter in our Legnum over about 3 years. It is also worth while noting that it was then laboratory tested and came back as ok to still be used (had dropped it all out though). The only issue I had was having to top up the oil every now and then. It still worked out quite cheap compared to "regular" drain intervals.

I would be up for a group by if it makes a difference to the price :)

The club discount is 15%, so a 5l tub and a filter is $149.60 with the discount, and I got free shipping too(even with 2 5l tubs and two filters). :)
