Won this on eBay, seems a bargain. Just need to suss out the wiring now/pale

It'll be interesting to see what it does and how it works. On the face of it, it is a bargain! Just a boost gauge should cost more than that.

RPM, boost, oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, volt warning and shift light.

Not sure how i'm going to wire in the rpm guage though?

Tap into one of the injector signals or ignition failure sensor :)

Oh sweet, cheers Jason :-)

Have to see what comes in the box wiring wise. Need to find somewhere to mount it too lol.

Nice, not sure that one shows boost but looks really good with the analogue needles.

I'm thinking i might try and install mine where the clock goes in the middle of the dash, i have some carbon sheet left over from my biking days and i think i can get something tidy knocked up.

You can find some manuals here; http://www.egauges.com/AM_Instr.asp

Not the specific one for your model but may be able to help in some way.

If it works well it will be a nice piece of kit/yes Look forward to seeing it installed.

That looks good, I didn't even know that such a gauge exist, looking forward to see that plugged

I have a sandwich plate question. I have a standard oil filter and the car is lowered, i remeber reading that this could cause problems with ground clearance??? My intercooler is pretty big and is only a few mm up from the bottom of the bumper. Will the filter be lower than that???

Arrived today and looks like a quality bit of kit :-). Loads of bits included, however the instructions are a little sparse. Boost i can do, but not sure about oil temp or pressure?

Heres some pics of a few of the bits included.

Oil temp and pressure bits you'll need a sandwich plate for, then its just a case of running the wires to the oil filter under the car :)

Cheers Jason, thats what i thought but just wanted to be 100%. I think i'll wire the tach into the IFS. I take it that i can just wire the water temp into the the our cars standard sensor. I've not got the car with me at the moment to check?

Thought i knew how to wire in the boost gauge lol does the solenoid need its own power supply?

Nick Mann

Solenoid? A gauge only monitors the pressure, it shouldn't need a solenoid.

Sorry i mean sensor not solenoid.

Ah. I'd imagine that the sensor only needs connecting to the gauge. Normally the sensor changes resistance as the boost changes and the gauge simply measures that. The nice thing about that system is that you can put the sensor close to the plenum and run wires into the car, giving less chance of boost leaks on pipes running into the cabin. Most cheaper gauges just run mechanically and you have to run a pipe all the way to the gauge.

The sensor will pull the power it needs from the gauge.

For the water temp, you would be best getting an in-line sensor adapter like this: http://www.dsrturbo.com/water-temp-sensor-adaptor.html

I find that the speaker cable that comes with normal car speakers works really well for extending wires for sensors, especially the oil ones - I've got mine running alongside the radiator and up along the engine bay into the car with no issues. Measure it out first though - you don't want to be caught short.

also the sensor will be specific to the gauge, so the factory sensor may not provide the correct resistance range,
giving you a incorrect reading.

I was thinking about just taking a feed from the wire that goes from the water pump to the in dash gauge?

I just bought and fitted one of these

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360456390277

This will house your pressure and temp sensors no probs. It also seals very well with the double o ring esp as I had been struggling with oil leaks from the single large o ring variants for a couple of months now.

Following the advice of a fellow member I used loctite gasket sealer around the threads of the blanking plugs to be sure. My leggy is dropped 45mm at the front and the short filter doesnt catch at all.

Thanks Pezza, thats what i was looking at ordering.

As for the tach part of the guage i've read that its possible to tap into the wiring behind the dash. Apparantly its the white wire, pin 15, on the right side connector (C-30)?????

I'm trying to keep all the wiring nice and tidy so will be making up my own loom that i'm able to remove the whole lot easily if i ever sell the car or the guage on.

You will need a separate sensor for the water temp gauge. There's no way around it.

SteveH
09-05-2012, 10:08 AM
ok cool, i have a sensor anyway so just need an adaptor. What diameter does the inline hose adaptor need to be for our cars?

Not that i'll be buying all the bits yet as i've got some other things to sort on my car first. The guage will be installed intime for Japfest but wont be showing oil pressure, temp or water pressure.

Turns out that wiring the Tach into the dash feed dosen't work so now i'm going to try wiring it into one of the coil packs. To be totally honest i'm a bit worried about splicing into the wires coming out of the coil pscks, has anyone else done this before? A few questions come to mind straight away, Which coil to use? Which wire? and is taking a feed off a coil going to mess up the voltage needed for the coil to work?

Any advice is welcome :-)

Have a look at the ecu pin outs... Im running a shiftlight off one of the wires into the ecu, but I cant remember which one, and I dont have my pm from Jase(Foxdie) on which he confimed the pinout for me...
