Metallic or Pearlescent?

Here is a dumb question I've been wanting to know.

Does anyone know the paint type for a 2001 black galant?
i.e. Is it metallic paint or pearlescent?

And whats the difference?

i dont know about your car's paint type

metallic paint has a near glitter like finish to the paint then sprayed over with clear laquer to lock in the mettallic particiles,also some add different shade's of particiles to give a perl like finish.

pearlescent is a whole different kettle O fish, basic's are that it changes colour from every angle,you use to only get it with a white base now you just pick your colour's "mix an match" it's a far bigger job (used to have to spray each coat from different angel's) also only a real pro can get the finish from pearl is a bloody nightmare of a job to do and cost a lot more cash than mettalic paint.
and if you really want to "pimp it up" get a layer of metal flake over pearl paint and 10 coat's of laquer!

i'd say that the finish on my 98 model has a mix of coloured metallic particiles,dont think it's pearl paint but it does give different shade's in different light?

best guy to properly answer would be Marcus (Rally 205)..as thing's have changed since i last used a spray gun :)
