Hi at all,
my new VR4 is now by a friend of me which produce handmade stainless steel exhaust systems.
But i´m not sure which diameter i should choose. My idea is a complete system from the turbos with a steel cat. But the question is 2,75" or 3,0" diameter.
My opinion is, a 2,75" system is enough and a 3,0" is not necessary.
What is your opinion??

Mine has a 2.5" system from the turbos back and works very well.

It all depends on what your long term plans are, but I am pretty sure you are right.

2.5inch of each turbo joining to 3inch back,(then cat)

3inch cat back, 2 resonators (center mufflers) and a rear muffler.

this is the fujitsubo (cat back) recipe, and alot would agree the best (premade) exhaust available for the VR4, sound and performance wise.

also if noise matters, bigger is better for keeping it quite (air velocity with a smaller system is greater with a smaller pipe and therefore louder)

Go for 3" inner diameter Dennis, just as Carsten said. 2.75" is the stock exhaust diameter.

Ben from Eurospec told me 2.75ins is good for up to 400bhp, provided its all "straight through", & no restrictive type back box.

the catalytic converter is missing... And yes, how much for this set? We have at least 5 interested parties (me included), so maybe woth to check out possibilities for a group buy?

I´ve talked with my friend. It was really much work for him ~25h and a lot of material ~ 800€ for the pipes, muffler, the 200 cell cat etc.. The normal price for the complete set is ~ 1.500 €
If there is really interest in the system i can talk with him again. But i think the shipping is a little bit tricky to the UK. Otherwise for every problem it gives a solution.

that makes me want to be rich. :/

Well i'll have to keep to my factory exhaust abit longer then :)

I think i can talk with my friend. Also it makes a difference if you want to have a cat or not. My system is now with a 200 cell cat but decat will be cheaper.
Otherwise is there no exhaust maker in the UK?

I have to totally disagree with this.
I made a 3" system with two silencers for my VR4, and it was embarrassingly loud. The neighbours all hated it.
The Fujitsubo system has 3" pipework but reduces to 2.75" through both silencers in order to reduce the noise level. A large-bore silencer is less effective than a narrow one, because the gasses just pass straight through it.
For best performance/quietness trade-off you want big pipework immediately after the turbos, reducing to a smaller diameter towards the back of the system where the gasses will have had a chance to cool off a bit and start to form an orderly queue out of the exit.
