View Full Version : Use engine somewhere else...?

If you would like to use the VR-4 engine in a "hotrod" project, with another gearbox, could you do that with the original ECU? Or do the engine and gearbox (auto) have the same ECU or a lot of comunication between each other?
Is there any other signals that needs to be there for the ECU to work, like ABS, like newer cars?

I'm thinking longitudinally install...

They are seperate ECUs. And even if they are the same, you can bypass the auto part. Magna guys here in Aust do this when converting to manual.

cant be bothered digging up the thread for you but if you use search there is a member on here that is using a 6a13tt with a 4wd nissan skyline GT-R gearbox and putting it into a old rear wheel drive EX lancer
