3" cat?

as it appears that we need to have a cat fitted for the annual test and im not sure i am getting one with the car, how do i get one for an aftermarket S/S system with a larger diameter than the stock parts? as far as i know the stock exhaust is 2.5 but the car i am getting has a 3" diameter. how do i get round this?

Cut the flanges off a standard cat and fit larger ones so it can bolt up for MOT time

I have a 3" exhaust and I can get the standard 2.5" cat to fit nicely for the MOT.

You may find that a stanadrd cat will work.

I got a standard cat to fit as well, Just had to use a metal drill to align the holes better, get metal shard in my eye, go to hospital to get it out, see blurry for a while, then it was all good!

On both my SS aftermarket exhaust systems the factory cat flanges fit fine on the 2.75" and 3" diameter flanges, so probably not something to worry about too much. As long as you have one it'll fit or with minimal adjustment as mentioned by Jamil. IF you need to adjust the flange-holes, save up time and use protective eyewear when you work on metal cutting, drilling and/or grinding :)

We need the 'refitting is reverse of removal' procedure on this. I did wear eye cover but the metal came through the air holes. Bit rubbish as they were only for hedge trimming protection.

i have a spare V6 cat so i will probably take it to the custom exhaust builders round the corner and get them to do the work

The V6 and VR-4 cats are different, but I see no reason why the V6 cat wouldn't work once the exhaust system is modified to fit. We did it with the RVR when the original cat went missing - i.e. got the system modified to fit a VR-4 cat, and then left the decat pipe in.

modify the exhaust system? oh no they dont. they can make the cat fit for the MOT and thats it lol

£119 when i have a cat on a V6 i am breaking plus a spare V6 cat which i had intended stripping out?

The sport cats/Hi Flow cats are an inbetween of Cat/Decat pipes, they are less restrictive than a standard cat - to release more power, but should still keep your car and its emissions legal.

I keep thinking of one myself, but always find something else to spend the cash on
