As a peace of mind thing i am gonna get the oil & filter changed. the car had it done 1K miles ago but has pretty much 'stood' for three months.
Questions
Which filter - gen or a good non-gen?
Which oil ?
Many thanks

Good plan. Although not as bad as the VR-4, I've found the V6 to place a fairly high demand on it's oil - It soon goes dark. I also feel that the 9,000 mile oil change interval is stretching things a bit, especially with an engine known for having lash adjusters that need clean oil to work quietly. I personally get it serviced every 9,000 but do the oil and filter at 4,500 mile intervals myself.
I would use a genuine filter, but many people seem pleased with ADL Blueprint parts, and having recently fitted a set of their O.E. Spec brake pads, I can see why.
As regards oil... The specified oil for the V6-24 is a 10w/40 Semi-Synthetic. I use magnatec, but after my next two cans have been used, I'm thinking of switching to a synthetic.

I may be wrong, i which case I apologise in advance, but I thought magnatec was fully synthetic?

No... But many people think it is, simply due to Castrol's rather wooly "Synthetic Engineering" blurb....

Makes for interesting reading....
