I managed to get GTO master cylinder fitted with its cup sticking out on the other side of the cylinder.
Tried to use VR4 cup but it doesn't fit.
Cylinder and cup need to go separately so cylinder gets fitted first and then cup.
Cylinder need slight mod to the sticking out part which touches the chassis so i ground it down to the width seen on the picture which gives enough room.
The other thing was slightly in the way was power steering pipe so i cut the bracket down and moved hose pipe to make enough room.
Threaded pin holding the cup was replaced with long bolt and screwed in from the other side than the original pin which allows to put the cup in after fitting cylinder.

I quickly used tie clips to hold power steering hose in the right position but that can be done much better by modifying bracket seen on the fire wall so all will look nice and neat.
I wound the push rod in about 1.6mm but i would say 1.5-1.6 will do the job.

Thats ebay seller's fault who said that it is the same as Evo 6 master cylinder. :)
If i knew that it isn't i would have never bought it and as i got it i thought ill give it a go and see what happans.

Nice to know it fits, but some models already have a 17/16 cylinder, otherwise all others have a 1" bore.

I have just checked my chassis number and ASA seems to suggest it has a 17/16" master cylinder as standard.
Maybe it has something to do with it being a cold spec car, just a thought.

Cars with ASC got 17/16" MC

So am i right in thinking all PFL with TC/ASC have the larger master cylinders. but facelifts have ASC as well don't they, and no separate TC as it is all built into the ASC unit.
so all PFL and FL should have the larger master cylinder, but they don't is the FL system not called ASC (i presume it means Active Stability Control).

i am not sure now. i know some PFL didn't come with TC, but these seemed to be close to the PFL FL changover point, and these seem to have the FL ASC system.

i am not 50% sure let alone 100% sure about any of this now.

please enlighten me and every other reader of this thread. as i know many people have swapped over to evo 17/16" (1 1/16") master cylinders thinking they were upgrading and it has been discussed in a few threads, but this is the first time i have heard of the 17/16" master cylinder being fitted to VR4's as standard.
It has surprised me a great deal that i have not heard of this before.

anymore info on this would be greatly appreciated.

FLs don't have ASC. It theoretically could be specced as an option, but I'm not aware of anyone having come across an ASC-equipped facelift car.

Sorry guys, but what exactly is the point of all this exactly?

What do the facelift have then?

Is it just AYC and abs.

Supposedly the larger master cylinder make the brembo brakes that quite a lot of people have convetted to work better as the evo master cylinder is the larger 17/16" and stops the spongy press hard issue that some people have.

ABS was std on the FL's, and its either AYC or open diff depending on the spec(Type-s vs Type-v).

There is a known car in aus with TCL on a FL, so ASC isnt that a far fetched option. Maybe Jase(foxdie) or something with the options list for cars can confirm further.

That is odd, mitsi spend a fortune developing a TC and asc system for the pfl and hen drop it completely for the fl.
Just seems a bit odd. I always thought the fl had a stability system but it was all integrated in to one system that you could not turn off. How wrong can I be.

I think the issue is they may have found it flakey(my plf had tcl issues the whole time I had it)..

and you are not the only one tha has had issues, so yes that could be the reason, there was that recall for the asc/abs system as well, that must have cost them a lot.

i have to say though, i never had an issue with TCL / asc system in either of my VR4's. which is lucky i think.

Sorry for the thread hijack fassi1.

getting back on topic, we have narrowed it down, so any PFL or FL VR4 with TCL / ASC will come with the larger 17/16" master cylinder as standard. Although i don't think it is marked on the master cylinder itself, the size i mean. yet the evo master cylinder is marked up as 1' 1/16".

so we have a bit of an ironic situation,
most PFL VR4's came with TCL / ASC and most FL VR4's did not come with TCL / ASC, and yet PFL hub carriers wil not fit brembo front calipers and FL front hub carriers will fit brembo caliper as a straight bolt on item.

it is never easy!

i have the vr4 17/16 master cylinder, and it came of a pfl auto with tcl/asc
and IT IS SIZE MARKED,

all mitsi stock cylinders are sized marked, ive never seen one that wasnt (dealing with mostly imports)

it is not exaclty the same construction as the stock vr4/evo cylinder.
ill have to get a couple of pic's off this.
and because of all the brackets and stuff thats on the tcl/asc master you will need to adjust the brake push rod so you dont get lockup issues

where abouts is the size marked?
i have looked for it on mine and have not found it, i had assumed it was in the same place as the evo master cylinder. i can't see it on mine, maybe it is due to dirt or something like that.
i am looking on the top of the master cylinder between the threaded bosses on the top.
is that the correct place to look?
