View Full Version : Subframe bolt/stud is no longer captive!

While undoing one of the subframe bolts the captive end, which you cant get at, became un-captive so I cant do it back up. It's the one in the wheel arch so me and a mate cut away the small panel that covers it and to our amazement there is nothing on the other side which spins when you spin the bolt.

My question is does anyone know the mechanism these subframe bolts use to stay captive? As I am running out of ideas with how I can tighten this back up.

can you put a blob of weld on the 'captive' part to secure it to the chassis?

No can't get to the captive part. Managed to grind the original seized up nut off, going to clean the thread up and go for a new nut with some flats in the stud to keep it still. Hopefully this works, will take a lot of wd40
