Hey guys, i'm looking to upgrade to 17" from factory 16's on a VR4 Saloon.

Picked out the wheel and tires and was about to order when a tire guy told me they might not clear the stock calipers. This was done over the phone to the US and they don't have the VR4 there so he is going by guessing, but it got me worried... so now I need reassurance :)

The wheels are ADR GT-Sport Silver 17X7.0 5 on 114.3(4.5 in) 40mm offset and will be replacing stock wheels and tires. A cookie to anyone who knows fairly certain if the new wheels will clear the calipers!

Here is a pic and spec of the wheels:

The standard 6.5Jx16 wheel is +46, (it's be printed on the inside of one of the spokes of the wheel). I have 8Jx17 wheels with +38 offset that fit with no problems. The lower the offset number, the more the wheel sits out. Can't see you having any problem with the wheels you're looking at.

Thanks, i think i'll give it a go and order it.
Will be a tragedy if they dont fit however, as the shipping is murder.

Hold on zeke ......... those wheels are 4 stud aren't they? And you should have 5 stud on a VR4?

Unless I've missed something :sad3:

Zeke's first post says 5 on 114.3, but definitely something to check.

Yes, it is actually 5x114, the picture is correct! The hyper silver color has the 4x114 error. But I am going with the regular silver and not the hyper silver:

And yes they are really cheap!

HI,
I agree with H7, you should have no problems. I recently got a set of wolfrace Katanas, 17 x 7.0 with a 40mm offset, with 235 / 45 / 17 Goodyear Eagle F1's.
I have a 1998 Legnum Vr4, I do not have the wheel arch extensions like H7 ,(and they're not like huge or anything) and I recon the rears are totally fine, the fronts are just a tad too wide, about 5mm outside the arch, but this is down to the 235 / 45, and would be fine with 225 / 45, the wheels are a perfect fit, it's just the 235's are a tad wide, so I wouldn't worry about if.
It all sounds very technical and, will they won't they fit!, but your looking at a difference of 8mm! from your original wheels!.
Whether the wheels are 6 inch, 7 inch, or eight inch wide, the extra width goes in the way. The offset is still the same regardless if the width.
