race fab was the place that just did carls td04 conversion. they would have just kept the jig.
you need to change the intercooler piping.. wastegate acuator position. front pipes and water and oil lines. not a matter of buying manifolds and bolting them on. but racefab did a fantastic job on carls car and they definatly look the part!

Mah engine!! haha. If I'd known it was a picture shoot I would... nah that's a lie I wouldn't've cleaned it.

Yeah, it's a bit of a quick ol' galant these days. Still got more in her though!

dosent need to be clean to go fast. once its got better pistons and rods in her you can cram some more boost down her throat and try crack 400hp atw

how much did the td04 conversion cost ya carl?

3.5K cash job (i.e. not finance). Poor Rob didn't realise the amount of work involved I think (didn't drop the engine out to do it, which made it alot more difficult), and muttered something about if it was again charging near 6K lol. But in saying that, he now knows what needs to be done, so that would pretty much halve the time required.

Must say he did really nice work, and I think part of the extra time/cost was that he forgot that all the original intake pipework was in the boot of the car, so he completely remade all the pipework (I'd minced the turbo's so was limping it with a rag over the throttle body - rear turbo was throwing chunks of the housing)

So yeah, got a bit of a deal there which is why I paid cash in the end. Included all intake pipework, manifolds, dump pipes, and down pipes (with flexy) to the exhaust connection - so no cat converter.

And a cool racefab sticker on the pipe by the radiator, haha.

Good to see she is still going hard.

Out of interest, how many km did the turbos do before they gave up?

Deby's still going strong. About 190K, had replaced the front earlier because of a rattling noise, but it turned out to be the wastegate actuator not the turbo itself. The actual first turbo fault was the rear turbo shaft shearing during a track day.

Girl's had quite a bit of playing done with her since I bought it - TD04s, fuel pump, cams and valve springs, injectors, brembos, BC gold suspension, intercooler, alloy rad to name a few, haha.

Good stuff!

190k isn't bad for the original turbos I think, considering I was peaking at around 19psi for ages on them :p
Goes to show what having a stringent service schedule can do!!

Why does that matter?

thats exactly it! ha rob at racefab is good friends of jeremy who owns evoparts who i know quite well.
rob quoted carl for the work, then a few weeks later i got a call from jeremy asking me if i knew how to take a vr4 rear turbo off in placeas his mate was stuck doing exactly that (as jeremy knows that i know my vr4 inside and out by now), turns out his mate, was rob from racefab. and the vr4 in question needing the turbo removed was carls for the td04 upgrade.

Bwahahaha, this blew out of proportion. I've edited it to make a bit more sense - cash == not paying for things with credit == less cost to business, as organising finance etc. is another popular way.

Guess the bonus is in getting a quote before you do business.

I was only concerned about the dreaded Tax man seeing this thread if it was under the table pymnt

That shows concern for fellow club-mates, and it really is a nice thing to do. I do realise I wrote it rather ambiguously - it read right in my head! So for that I apologise.
