i know this sounds daft but i dont know what i am doing but since my mechanic seems to have gone AWOL this weekend i want to try it myself. i know its only a 5 minute job if you know what you are doing but that clearly does not apply

can i get an idiots guide to swapping the track rod end (offside) between the V6 and VR4 please? this will be my main job tomorrow

TBH you may struggle. You will have difficulty undoing the lock nut on the shaft and then you will need a ball joint splitter to get the pin out of the hub. A large hammer can be used to shock them out but I don't recommend it on these. Finally, after the change your almost certain to have alignment issues which will require the tracking to be done. Can be a five minute job to those in the know as you say, but if you're not sure, I'd wait till your mechanic reappears.
