is there a external visual difference between the Evo ayc and sayc diffs

how do i know if i go to buy one if it is an sayc diff. with out having to open it up. or is there an inspection plate i can take off to see the larger thicker teeth on the internals.

all help greatly received Wodjno Louis Gly Nick Mann

There is a difference between them, and im sure this is documented over here, this probably not much help for you anyway

I *think* the AYC (not SAYC) evo 7 jobby has it's clutch pack fill bolt in the same place as the VR4. The SAYC diff has the fill bolt in a lower position, slightly offset from the original.

i know there is a difference between the VR4 diff ayc and the evo diffs in general as you need a 10mm spacer to get the evo diff to fit a VR4 chassis.

but it is Evo 7 to evo 8/9 diff visual changes.
i am not sure there is a difference, but i hope there is.

Errrr...... I just put what I believe to be the biggest difference in my post above? Jason bought what he thought was an SAYC diff, but the clutch pack fill bolt was in the same position as a VR4. It still needed the 10mm spacer though, so it was definitely an Evo diff. I can't remember why but we came to the conclusion it was an Evo 7 jobby.

Sorry - just re-read my post. I'll edit it!

11:17 to 11:22? Feck me, even Andy ( The Vee ) can type faster than that!!! /pan

My wording wasn't very good in the original edit, when I read it back it didn't make sense. I changed a couple of words. I assumed you had read it before I edited it and didn't understand!

SAYC (http://www.sgevoclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=11292&start=0&&view=print)?

yes very slow as i have had a few drinks tonight.

so if i took a spare vr4 ayc diff with me to do a comparison,
could i say if the clutch pack fill plug was in a lower position and slightly offset than the VR4 fill plug then it would be an SAYC diff (evo 8/9).

SAYC (http://www.sgevoclub.com/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=11292&start=0&&view=print)?

cheers adam got the rear diff pic from that add.

Now there is a question.
1. My SAYC does have the fill plug offset from the VR4 position.
2. Other AYC Evo diffs have the fill plug in the same place as the VR4.
That doesn't add up to an offset fill plug guarantees SAYC. It might be true, but my observations don't prove it.

i suppose i could buy a suposidly evo 8 diff then take the insection cover off to make sure, because if i count the crown teeth there should be 43 in the sayc.

i hate relying on someone you don't knows work that the part is the correct one.

if the part comes from a private person breaking his car then i could ask to see the logbook to verify it is an evo 8 he is breaking, as i would not know an evo 7 from an evo 8, from an evo 9.
if you were breaking a car, would you be offended if someone ask you to see the logbook of the car you were breaking part off?

I'd be surprised! but most of the vr4's I have owned didn't say vr4 on the log book.

that is very true.

maybe it is just a trust in the seller.

Ask to see the chassis number. That will tell you the quickest and easiest way - unless the seller is breaking several Evos.

Evo7 - CT9A 010XXXX SJGFZ
Evo8 - CT9A 020XXXX SJGFZ
Evo8 MR - CT9A 030XXXX SJGFZ

just had a thought jason foxdie is the top pic and evo 7 ayc diff or a vr4 ayc diff? it looks like an vr4 diff.
do you have a pic of a evo 7 diff from the back.

well as of last night i am the proud owner of a Evo 8 SAYC diff and subframe and drive shafts and diff mounts and hub.
which was more than i was expecting, but i am not complaining.

Is is fitted yet?

Davezj

i don't think so you kidder you.

i still have to do the super shift ATF in a standard VR4 AYC diff test yet to see if it changes the amount of torque transfered and if the AYC operation changes/sharpens up.

What??

Well i had the thought that the normal ATF fluid (amsoil universal ATF) we use in the AYC diff is very good and does what it is meant to, it protects the AYC clutch plates and helps to transfer torque while the clutch packs are being activated and diverting torque from side to side.
but the super shift ATF is meant for drag racing and the likes and and it is supposed to make the clutch plates bit really had and iliminate all of the slippage so the torque trans for should be more.
i will refrain from saying better but more.
i don't know what will happen when i try it but it is something i would like to do, to see what happens.

ok, its all clear to me now, I thought 'super shift' is some to do with shifting your gears super quick or something like, LOL

Davezj

you could use super shift in the auto box but Don AMSoil told me that it would make the car undrivable on the road as the shift would be really jerky and harsh. not pleasant at all.
however launches off the line at a drag stip would be great.
