Hi. I was thinking of upgrading my inter cooler for my legnum vr4 and was wondering if the evo inter coolers were much of an upgrade? Could anyone also suggest any others?

go and get an aftermarket part if you want to upgrade. Universal FMIC 550x230x65mm should do the job. You will need a 45° and a 90° silicon pipe and there you go.

Does it matter what make? I've heard there are vast differences in quality

Ebay is a good source for aftermarkey Intercoolers. I have had a couple myself, both non branded. And both were cracking quality and perform well. 600x300x76mm is the max size you can really go before you have to start modyfing the crashbar and other stuff. Stay below that and fitting should be trouble free.

You will have to make up some top and bottom mounting brackets for fitting. Also if you have afacelift VR4 you will need to get hold of a PFL front Intercooler pipe, as the FL has inlet/outlet top to bottom. PFL is bottom/bottom.

Cheers

i didn't want to big his hopes up to much.
i have been considering if a 200X600x76 ish would not be a better intercooler option.
just from a fitment point of view it sits below the crash bar and fills the gap, the majority of the 300x600x76 is behind the crash bar.

so it is really up to what you can get your hands one for the money you want to pay.

Came across this in my research: http://www.turboneticsinc.com/sites/default/files/AllAboutIntercooling.pdf
A very informative article.

I bought a 550x240x65 and was almost a straight fit! All I had to do was shorten the inlet hose and relocate the PAS fluid cooler. No modification to the crash bar needed and it cost me a whopping 70 quid from ebay! This and my 30 quid turbosmart mbc represent possibly the best value power mods you could ever hope for!
