the fog light bulb has a metal cover within the fog light housing. is there any reason i cant remove it to give better light and (hopefully) give the same blue reflection from the bulb as my headlights have?

question answered. the other end holds the bulb in place with the little cut outs at each side

yes but it doesnt show as well on the fog lights and that metal bit doesnt help. it obscures most of the bulb. the front fogs are pretty useless anyway so removing that or modifying it might help it light the road far enough in front of the car to actually be of some use in fog. as i remember, the light barely reaches a couple of yards in front of the car and seems to be mostly to the sides
