Hi guys, as the title suggests I am wondering if anyone knows of any decent gearbox specialists or Legnum friendly garages in the Dorset area. I need my Torque converter seal replacing and would love Nick Mann to do the job for me but I know he is busy for the next few weeks plus I have the added drama of getting the car to Redditch lol.

I spoke to Mitsubishi in Poole to get a qoute for the job and guess what they said???........They dont do gearbox repairs!!!! Thats right Mitsubishi apparantly dont have the expertise to replace TC seals etc on Mitsubishi's so they will take the gearbox out (in 7.5hrs) then send it off and put it back in (a further 7.5hrs) when they get it back!!! I know its a pig of a job but I think they are over exaggerating a little bit on the labour side of things with 15hrs to take a gearbox out and out it back in again!!

Ben Eurospec quoted a good price but again its getting her to Guildford. So ideally Im after a decent garage that knows Legnum's or a member that is handy themselves and could do it for me :)

Any help appreciated

Drive it. It'll be fine as long as you keep the oil topped up.

Yeah I was tempted to drive it but as it will only go around 80 miles on 10 litres of fluid I don't want to be driving it far as it will turn into a very expensive journey lol

I know there is a place in weymouth in 1 of the trading estates off Chickerell road. They did my torque converter seal. I think their on Granby trading est, could be Albany rd on the left. I just can't remember the name of the company.

Never used these lot for anything else but service exchange commercial gearboxes & diffs, but they may be worth a try and they might know someone who will remove the box

Colin Wiltshire, a search of the trading estate you mentioned reveals the following companies:

Rapid Fit, JMK Auto Repairs, Graham's Motor Services, Dunnings Automatics Ltd, Chesil Beach Motors, Autotek

Do any of these ring a bell with you mate?

Cheers
Rikki

I feel I must warn you, they're not exactly cheap, was a little more than what I was expecting, ANd I know Nick Mann would be cheaper, but as you said, it's getting there.

Yeah thats the thing, people who are cheaper etc are all quite some distance from me so would end up paying more after Ive sorted out getting the car there. Ive spoke to a place in Poole today who said they could do it for around £400 but couldnt tell me exact until they had done the job.

Gave the guys a ring today and they quoted me £400 all in. Labour, seal, fluids etc. Pretty much what I was expecting. Although Eurospec and Nick Mann both undercut them, by the time Ive transported the car to either of them the prices would be matched if not more.

Nothing personal against either Ben or Nick but hopefully they understand that both money is tight and the 10th Anny is fast approaching for which Id love to have her back on the road for. Hopefully all being well I should have her sorted in the next week or two :)

Cheers again Colin

Car has been kindly delivered by the AA to Dunnings. Work is being carried out tomorrow and friday and hopefully I will get her back Friday afternoon as long as nowt else in the box turns out to be fubar'd!! Also killing 2 birds with 1 stone by getting them to fit my poly mounts while the box is out. Winner :)

Had the car booked in for last Thursday and the guy said he would want 2 days to do the work so he didnt have to rush the job. I was happy as this meant that he would have Thurs/Fri to do the job and I would have the car for the weekend.

Phoned up Thurs about 5pm just to check the progress and see what time roughly he estimated it being done on Fri and the response was.........'Not started yet probably get started on Monday/Tuesday'........Erm....really???

Spoke to the guy who was going to do the job and he told me he would be starting on Fri and hoped to have it done in the morning!!

Phoned up Friday about 3pm again to check progress and got told..........'Yeah it wont be finished til Monday now!!!'

Phoned back just now, again to check progress and see what time it would be ready...........'Hopefully be done by the end of the day, if not tomorrow!!!!!'

So this 2 day job has now taken 3 days and possibly will be longer!!!

Now I could understand the delay if I had just dropped it in and told them to do it, but I had booked it in a week in advance!! And for it to be sat there for a whole day doing nothing just grips me.

Anyway, with any luck they will screw the nut and get it squared away today!! I hate being without a car!!

I hate it when that happens, well as long as they do a good job then all will be forgiven :)

Price has now gone up to £610????? From £400!!! So they are charging me £210 to be completely inconvenienced by them taking the pi$$!!!!!!

Long story short, due to this lot I now have a f***ed tow eye cover (that I have only recently bought!!), an even more f***ed engine cover, a f***ed battery and to top it all off when I went to pick it up and drive off the guy came over to show me that he has re-wired part of the alternator wiring loom then went 'SH!T I havent put it back together properly!!' my response 'WTF!!!!!!!!!!' he hadnt plugged any of the wiring loom back in including the speed sensor etc. so he had to set to work fannying around to get the job done that he had a week to do!!!

I set of home and think 'ahhh its good to be back in the Legnum' get to the A31 where it breaks into dual carriageway and ease the accelerator down (not full throttle) boosting to around 10psi when..........boooom!!! Turbo hose has blown off due to it not being tightened properly!!! Extremely pi$$ed off with them, especially seen as 2 of them say they have owned Legnums in the past and I can say I won't be sending the car back there! I went ape sh!t at them and managed to get £55 back. Not a great deal I know but I just wanted to get out of there tbh.

At least its all done now.

No need to feel guilty mate, it wasnt your fault I guess I was just unlucky this time. Having calmed down a little now Im just glad the job is done and she is back on the road in time for the 10th Anny :)
