how does it work over there? i have just been watching a police program in NZ and a guy was over the drink limit but he was under 20 and driving a turbo impreza. that combination just doesnt happen here due to insurance costs. fortunate in a way since most of them cant handle a 1 litre car but still hugely different to the systems that we have

not much to it, although its a lot cheaper here, 20, paying 1100 i think a year for the vr4 insured for 6k, dont know what third party would cost for the car, i imagine substantially less, dotn even have to legally have it, although third party should be a minimum, especially in case of an at fault accident, depending on how old you are and the car, and your drving history ie speeding fines, some companys wont touch you, although there are a few, im with nac, a mates with club auto, although he only has a na s13, but he once crashed into a house due to reckless driving

Yea you will find he probably doesn't have insurance, or it's insured in his parents name

if its insured with him, his premiums will go up now lol, understandable, i wouldnt want to insure someone with a dic charge

the car didnt belong to him. he just drove it back for the owner who for whatever reason, didnt want to drive. the police had a checkpoint set up and this guy was unlucky enough to come along when they were about to pack up. the said the car was too low and had no gap between the tyres and arches? something like that! breath tested him and he failed. 300 odd when the limit at his age is 150? the car owner managed to pass the breath test and wound up driving her car home with the guy who was driving it for her

over here that would be a 12 month ban plus a 10 year black mark on your driving record which most insurance companies wouldnt touch

If he was under 20 it's zero tolerance

The zero tolerance law came in recently. If he was watching the show in the UK, it was probably a few years old

Fair enough I didn't think of that.

it is zero tolerance, but, under 150, its just demerits and fine, i think its $400 and 50 demerits out of the 100 you're allowed, above 150 is drink driving charge, 400 for people over 20

what does $400 translate to in £? my renewal quote is £532 which i am quite happy with considering the mods i have and its not much different to what i paid on the V6

I just got my VR4, 97 Galant. $25 fortnight for full cover with a $300 excess, and i'm 22. Insured for 5k.

I work in rental cars and once went to give a young guy from the UK a Camry, he didn't want it because he had never driven a car that powerful as he had never been insured to drive a car over 2000cc. Found that funny since I was the same age and had driven Evo's etc before when I was 17. Not uncommon to see guys as young as 16 on their restricted driving cars 300+ hp cars in NZ.

Not compulsory to have ANY insurance in NZ so much different to the UK.

With who for that price. I tried asb after they insisted to quote me. they wanted $54 a fortnight for full insured for 4k and $16 for 3rd party. I walked out laughing.
