IMO is well overpriced as what it is, I done mine for far less last year, see here for details (http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?63187-Detonation-Knock-pre-ignition-removal-reduction&p=697695&viewfull=1#post697695)

yep, just starting to look and this was the first thing I saw. Didn't seem like silly money so thought I'd put it on here to see what people had to say about it.

Depends if you need all tne other little bits of hose and stuff to go with it.
Might be cheaper to buy the rad on it's own and go to a tuner garage for a bit of custom piping to fit.

...... shiny.........

That is still expensive for the one you have linked to tim.

The pfl front end is the easiest and cheapest out of the pfl and fl to fit a after market intercooler to.
Should be able to do it for less than £150

I did the same as Adam and it is a great way to do it.
The only thing I would different, is I bought a 600*300*76 I would go for a slightly smaller one so it fits beneath the front bumper bar,you can get 600*280*76 or even a 260 to make sure. Then it is very easy to mount the intercooler perfectly vertical and not worry about modifying he bumper bar.

But the choice is yours

cheers Dave - are there any links on here for that? Simpler would be better. I have a man who lives opposite me that works at a garage nearby. I went to see him the other day while he was at work and look what sort of things they deal with.........

The one that gender fish has linked to will work, it slightly smaller than one I would have searched for but still a good option.

If you read the thread that adaxo linked to that has the full parts list you need for the install.
Just pick the intercooler you want to use in the list.

One thing I will say is replacing or relocating the power steering cooler is necessary.

I also cut the brackets off that hold the front of the bumper to the chassis off as this gave me more room to push the bottom of the intercooler against the chassis member behind it. this was necessary due to the 300mm height of the intercooler going behind the front bumper bar (I did not modify it) which made the intercooler lean back, which affect air flow. So being able to npush the bottom of the intercooler back a bit made it near enough parallel with the other rads.
The intercooler must be fitted parallel to the water rad and condenser rad, otherwise it will restrict air flow and could cause over heating.

Hot side pipework facing different way in FL to PFL, PFL is easier to fit bigger IC as FL require cutting and modified hot side pipe.

I use N/A V6 one, it fits nice behind IC, even all brackets fit in original slots.

Apparently the engine they've just made for it is going to have another 10 cast from it. It's like breeding cars!

I nearly bought one 10 years ago when they were only £15000 but then the company making or doing the chassis stopped and the prices just rocketed. Hopefully one day I might have one. If I ever come back to wattisham your have to try and convince him to let us have a BBQ at his so we can all adore his cars

PS cooler is just a pipe which go across rad, I don't think there differ between fl and pfl n/a v6.

thanks Adam. the more bits i can rob from the V6 the more money i make from it by not having to buy bits. it has pretty much paid for itself now anyway but there are still bits left i can use. if it stops raining!

Dave, do you know where i can buy the 600*280*76 or the 600*260*76 intercoolers you mention, i have searched and the nearest i can find is the one Alex has listed above on Ebay
cheers

there used to be lots of a 600 or 550 280x76 and 600 or 550 260x76 versions available, but they are a bit thin on the ground, a quick ebay search found these.
these would probably do, but not 100% sure.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RMD-Type-06-600mmx260x76-Front-Rear-Port-Front-Mount-Intercooler-Universal-/290901925480?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43bb1b1e68#ht_10000wt_981

this one is slightly smaller but will do. 5006 550x225x64
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-NO1-UNIVERSAL-FMIC-FFRONT-MOUNT-TURBO-INTERCOOLER-Select-Size-/200791391130?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&var=&hash=item2ec0197b9a#ht_3077wt_1162

not as many as there used to be but they are still out there, just need to change the way you search for them.

Cheers Dave, I was thinking of going for the 550x225x64 I know it's quite small, but i think 450 bhp is well above what i will be making :)

Davezj

it should fit very easily as it will not have to fit behind any metal work, and the new silicone hoses should be long enough to reach as i had to cut quite a lot off mine to make the intercooler fit

MYKEY

yes that is my next mod, cut out the old jap plate mounting plastic replace the maesh, fit the standard UK plate i have with a bracket in the middle of the bumper to cover the divit in the bumper. much better air flow.
and if you angle the numberplate down a bit , it will guide more are into the intercooler.

or if you are lucky and have a one number short plate then a smaller font straight looks correct and fits nicely into the existing bumper divit.

yes with the larger intercooler in place the pas cooler will not fit in its original position. when i changed my cooler originally i cut up the old pas cooler and fitted longer flexible pipes to make it work, but then i just bent so 8mm copper heating pipe in a zig zag arrangement to get the length. and mounted under the car by the tow hook on the drivers side.

Gna have to make a list lol, with my starlet gt I got a fmic that had nuts welded into top of it so I was able to drill two holes in crash bar and feed long bolts down it to lock into these nuts saving me having to make brackets and they held the fmic up perfect

Davezj
22-05-2013, 11:28 PM
the trouble with the front bumper is the crash bar sits inside the front bumper, meaning the front bumper moulds round the crash bar on the top and the bottom, so you can't just hang it from the crash bar, it has to be set back from the crash bar and hung from the bottom of the bonnet release bracet.is best, and simple L shape braket will do the job nicely about 30cm long or 2 smaller brackets.

Yes never thought of that, and both ends of cooler be at the bottom instead of the stupid fl ds being at the top.

this is why i bought uk plates. you can also buy the same shape plates but with import size lettering so the plate is smaller. legal apparently!

thanks to the recess, using sticky pads to fit a uk plate isnt very secure. you can get a bracket from a uk car as they came with the import recess too but with a screw in bracket to attach the plate too. either that or a number plate holder which will have multiple screw holes in it although you may need to fit a bunch of washers behind it to strenthen the centre and fill the gap created by the recess

Davezj
23-05-2013, 01:17 PM
just make/buy/modify a backet with the mounting point inside the bumper recess, the bit that plate attaches to can be position anywhere depending on the bracket design. it does not take much to bend a bracket.
