So I recently moved down to Nelson, had a good look around and there is no 98 octane petrol :( the closest being in Blenheim which would be a bit of a mission to drive there when I need petrol haha.

Been here a week and had to put some gas in the car so I had to put in 96 :( I feel bad for giving my car a low octane fuel :(

lol

I'm running my vr4 on Z 95 and find it goes as good to running it on BP 98 and also I'm getting up to 50 more kms out of tank of Z 95 then i was with BP 98 driving around down.

It's fine running round town with 95 as long as you're not boosting it. I find that I get slightly more out of 95 than 98 with city cruising as well.

You can also get the ECU retuned for 95 if you have an OpenPort 2.0 or know someone with one. It'll be a bit less power, but at least it won't knock like a bitch.

why don't you use some octane booster in every tank. i presume the 95 is cheaper than the 98 so that should offset some of the cost of the octane booster.

Octane booster is about $20 a bottle here - it's probably about $5 extra max to fill up with 98 (It's about 6-8c a litre more expensive for 98, depending on where you go and if you do a full fill).

I'm from Nelson originally, so whenever I go up to visit the family, I always consider taking some extra fuel in jerry cans, but always forget!

do you have E85 or lpg
you could consider swapping.

LPG isn't really an option. Not many place do the conversion here. By the time you get the low volume cert, fitting certificate and the yearly LPG system checks, it's just too costly. Plus the fact there are not many filling stations, esp in the South Island

That could be more due to Pierre's tweak's Ben. :) He ran it on nothing but Z95. :)

Im actually considering getting my remap done on 95 rather than 98 due to it being more available around here. I have to go 35+k's to get 98 these days.

Yeah he was telling me over the Easter weekend that he only used Z95 and thought it must be something to do with the remap. Plus it doesn't seem to running as rich with Z95

That is most likely due to the remap and boost levels Ben. :) If you run 98, then it will be less optimised and will run richer. :)

I know that car can get up an boogie, from following it around Manfield. I think he only sold it as he got his 300zx.. lol

Yeah i guess goes alright but does need more power :-) I'm taking it alone to a skyline dyno day in July and hope it does good run. Would like it if it put out more kw's then a skyline :D

When i bought it, he already had his 300. I got one hell of good buy....

Nope only selected Mobil and BP stations.

Your car is NZ new aye? When it was new the highest octane we would have had was 95 or 96

I've found that as soon as you get a wee bit out of the city, they stop selling it.

Sigh Im only getting 260-290kms out of a tank of gas, I would love to have my ecu remapped so it can run on 95 nicely without going through it like theres a hole in the tank

Is that around town, or highway? If it is highway, that's pretty bad even for 95. Suggest you change your fuel filter.

Its going back and forth from home to work, so a bit of around town and a bit of highway. Yeah might change the fuel filter and see if that helps a bit

I'd suggest that you change plugs if you already haven't done so. Check out the air filter as well.

That fuel economy is terrible - I was getting better than that with two coil packs degrading.
