Per title, who think i could get wof with my 18" back on?

6240662407

Rear is fine but from getting guards rolled due to rubbing

It would be marginal, but I wouldn't pass it.

That said there will be plenty of dodgy places that would

if it fails, put the others back on, or swap to other ones for wof

I am sure you can change rim sizes by upto 20% without getting a cert,

More stretch on the front and you might be ok.

It's not the size that is the problem, it is the fact they hang out of the guards. You can't get a cert for that!

If you put flares on it you would be ok

Bender

I don't like stretch tyres so won't do that.

The car has a cert plate and meant to have 17x8 what the evo rims are.

I probably try and find a pair of same with around 35-40p offset. Mine are 29p offset with 235/40 tyres.

I don't want to get the guards rolled and put 2 new tyres on them if i can't get a wof.

Or might sell them and buy some new 17' rims.

Cheers for reply guys :)

The issue is that the tread is outside the guard on the front, which will be an automatic fail.

I had the same issue with 18x8's with 225's with a 35p offset.

lower the car more, its amazing how well the front tucks in,

Bender
23-05-2013, 04:25 AM
The car is lowered now and photos are before i lowered the car...

My 18 are 18x8.5 with 29p offset. Did think about going to a 215/40 tyre.

IMHO i dont think it will pass unless you go do a "dodgy" wof place.
flare the guards :)

Bender

If i can be bother i may put the 18' on for wof in few weeks and see what they say.

BEG4ME
24-05-2013, 07:58 AM
Try it and see. The issues are 1) tread outside gaurds and 2) certed for 17s yet presented with 18s.

You'd fail an MOT for that in this country.

My fronts stick out about the same (235/45/17), (and my rears more, they're 255/40/17) - hence I've got these stick-on-extensions:

Does look nice but not keen on the extensions.

How is the 4wd with having different size tyres on the car?

Confused

Haven't experienced any issues, and I've done over 60k miles on it in 4 years, and the wheels were on the car before I got it too.

CANDEE

Still pretty borderline Ben. My guess would be a fail, depending on the inspector.

Having different sizes front and rear isnt bad as long as the rolling diameter isnt to much out. I ran tyres that were 2% out front and rear for 30k on my old leggie with no issues at all.

Bender
24-05-2013, 11:05 AM
On my Stagea did run bigger size on the rear to the front but know of few cars not liking different sizes tyres.

I think it probably fail, it ashame really as it does look alot better with them on.

if a wof don't pick it up some extremely anal cop will.

I had some police officer shove his hand under the rear guard while asking if it was a legit lowering job... of course he didn't hurt him self so let me go without anymore questions when he found out I was a sober driver.

I have 18x8 +35p, was running 225/40/18's and passed two WOFs since having them with no issues, now running 235/40/18s and passed WOF.

Well it good news, they did pass the car with mags on, they said they not to worried about them.

Only rear tyres failed so anyone got ideas what tyres to get? :-)

The 18' have the re002 on them but don't think they are good as the falken 912 tyres that i have on my evo rims.. Would get the re002 abit cheaper then that but i don't think they worth the money.

Was thinking about putting some cheap tyres on rear

You could get some Toyo T1R's - for the price they aren't bad.

Bender
06-06-2013, 08:35 AM
Have always wanted to try toyo's. Don't think they do the T1R in a 235/40 anymore but will check out the costing of them.

My toyos failed structurally after 7k, running Vredestein at the mo which are awesome so far!!

Get whatever are on the front. Miss-matched tyres are not a good idea. I have run them a few times in the past (usually after changing wheels and before I get around to getting new tyres) and each time I couldn't get over just how much worse and un-predictable the handling was, especially in the wet.

Yeah? I have put pair of cheap tyres on the rear and seems to handle fine... Probably wear front ones out and replace the 4 next time.

It may be fine with normal driving, but if you start to push the car you will quickly find out what Kenneth means. He drives his car a little harder than most here :P

Bender

My last car i had run different band tyres and found it handle the same with a match set. I do drive better hard most of the time... If i find it doesn't handle like crap, Will just put the evo rims back on as they near new set of falken tyres on them.

You should fail your WOF with miss-matched tyres front/rear. It all really depends on your inspector though.

Mismatched tyres really show issues when you are at the limit of grip, or beyond. If you don't get there, then no worries. If you do, then you should really notice the difference in a matched set. The worst possible scenario is when you lose grip unexpectedly, at which point the difference is that you are going to crash vs you might crash.
I never had any serious accidents with miss-matched tyres, though when I did have a serious accident, I am glad as hell I had a set of good, matching tyres.

Not sure what your previous car was, but this is possibly only really relevant to AWD with viscous couplings. I have noticed that without a viscous coupling, the issue seems to be much less apparent.

I am just trying to pass on what I have learnt. Someone told me, so I am passing on the message. Be careful! :)

Aye? Since when has been a wof law? Would be good if it was or at least same pair on same axle but never seen or heard someone failing cause of that reason.

My last car was 4wd Stagea and didn't always run the same tyres and never had one issue with handling or anything. I understand what your saying. If i need too, will just put my other rims back on.

WOF law is they can't be miss matched on the same axle

Kenneth
10-06-2013, 12:35 AM
Thanks for correcting me, I thought they had changed it so that any driven axle had to have the same tyre...

That makes WOF easier at least :P
