Ok, my auto-box developed a terrible noise in 1-3rd gear but still runs. Points to bearings in the 1st planetary gear set and means it's on borrowed time. It's a 97 PFL in fairly good condition and we'd allready decided before this that it sadly has to go due to changes in my job meaning more driving.

So, it's currently at a garage who have looked into the cost of repairs for me, to split the box and check the damage will be £500 before extra parts and refitting, so if it's a cheap repair i'm still looking at about £1000. A complete overhaul with warranty from a local automatic transmission specialist will be £1600 all in.

As i figure it the cars probably worth £500-1000 in it's current state, BUT until it sold i'd be stuck without a car, which i kind of need for work as it's tough to get a lift home at 7:30 in the morning when the other two night shift guys live nowhere near me. Repaired and with a warranty do you guys think it would be worth £2500-3000 as that's what I'm thinking might make it worth doing to actually keep the VR4 going (though more for someone elses benefit that mine) and give me about £1000 to buy a diesel ecobox to run while i'm on nights.

So, what are peoples thoughts, worth taking the hit and repairing or cut my losses now?
