That's strange.
Never seen dimmer regulator with 2 plugs.
All dimmer controls (ball type) I've seen so far, had single white plug (IIRC 4-pins connector). With disconnected dimmer you won't get highlighted dash clocks (hi-vis type).

The rheostat with only one connector dims all the time. The rheostat with two connectors dims only when car lights are turned on.
But if there a "black box" on the loom side just behind the connector, the 2-connector rheostat works as 1-connector one

So if i was to take the box out i can use the duel plug shroud ?

Do the black box have one connector input and two connectors output towards the dimmer?

If it has output with only one 4-pin plug, then you need dimmer with one socket, more common to source.

I think, if you'll take this "adaptor box" out, you will be able to use the rheostat with dual plugs on your original loom...
