On my way to work today I noticed my car wouldn't let me go over 3k rpm , it's like something is forcing the turbos not to kick in.
If I drive over 3k rpm the car starts stuttering badly, its drives perfectly if I keep the revs low ,no warning lights either or smoke.
any thoughts on what this might be . (Manual pfl legnum)

Sounds like one of your boost pipes has worked it was loose to me. Check they are all secure, especially the ones on the right side of the engine near the battery

Not really you need to find cause of problem you could be damaging internals

Just had a look and found the intercooler pipe had com off the throttle body , I have tried putting this back on but every time I tighten the ring it pops off the rubber seal which goes around the throttle body, an I doing anything wrong?

Is the rubber ring damaged?

Looks a bit worn to be honest, the plastic pipe just keeps popping out.

You probably need to replace that o ring. I assume you are tightening it really tight? I would use a 1/4 drive socket on it instead of a screw driver

Just checked and it Looks like i have to but the whole elbow , probs just gonna buy some silicone hose to connect the pipe to the throttle body.
Does anyone know what diameter hose i need.

It's about 2 3/4 inch IIRC. You can also try spraying the rubber seal and the part of the plastic elbow that contacts the seal with hairspray and then put them together, as it should prevent it slipping.

Fixed this today i put a bit of rubber around the outside and thightend the clamp around it. Is this a common issue with our cars?

Mines popped off before but only due to a shoddy clip. By what others have posted, i'm guessing its more common that Mitsubishi intended :)

You need to get two barbs welded into a bit of straight pipe.

i would much rather buy a pipe which already has the two outlets welded on. if anyone knows if these can be brought please let me know

Personally I would take the pipe off the thrattle body, take the rubber seal off and clean all the surfaces with carb or brake cleaner o remove all the oil that collects in that area of the inlet system. Then put it all back together and see what happens.
The rubber seal will never keep the pipe on the throttle body if it is covered in oil, even if it is just a misty coating of oil.
Well that is what I would try before going out and buying new stuff.

just dont trust the original setup anymore i keep thinking it going to pop off under boost, bloody dangerous if you ask me.

The original setup is fine as long as it is in good condition. There are hundreds of VR4s in the UK and they're not all suffering this issue

My pipe popped off the tb the other day, dropped a cog went to overtake someone an POP car wouldnt rev. Managed to coast to a layby but I thought I had killed it lol
Opened bonnet and saw it straight away, thinkin of upgrading to silicone now tho cuz I had similar issue when I first got it

Assuming the pipe and rubber seal are in good condition,
The only reason you pipe will pop off the throttle body under ful WOT is contamination (oil) on the surfaces or a crappy clamp holding it all together.
I know this as I am using the standard pipe and rubber seal and I can hold 1.5 bar - 1.6 bar at WOT so I can assure you all, the standard parts are good enough.
I do not suffer pipe pop off.

The only bad bit of the story is I believe you have to buy the pipe and rubber seal together from mitsi even if you only what to buy the seal. They don't sell the separately.
