I'm trying to find a new clutch for my fiance's VR4, and I'm wondering if these are any good. I'm gonna ring around some places tomorrow, but thought I'd see if anyone has tried one of these clutches out.

ive never bought anything off NZAD but the guy was very helpful a few years back when I was trying to find a flywheel.
although for a few pennies more you could get a genuine exedy clutch, which is what mitsubishi use from the factory. im just weary about the no-name aftermarket parts out there. some of that chineese made crap is exactly that, crap.

BNT quoted $933 for a standard one. Exedy quoted $792 for a standard and $1086.75 for a sports tuff which is what I put in mine. I'll make a few more calls and go from there I think.

Try Tony at Clutch Systems in Christchurch, although shipping might screw any savings you might find.

Also try calling Automotive Supplies directly, they supply to Autostop and I've found things are a fair bit cheaper from them.

All sorted. Got one from Partmaster for an awesome price. Right, now I just need to summon the motivation to put it in!

I was thinking of buying that kit for my car Carsten! My knowledge on clutch kits for the legnum is limited though. Will I need to change the flywheel as well or will that kit fit straight on? Also do you know of any cheap mechanics in Auckland who could fit it?

straight fit, you do need to machine the flywheel though,

get in contact with bill at ralli-art for install, wouldnt say cheap, but know there stuff.

your looking at 8-ish hours labour + fluids + misc

Hmmm, apparently they only do race cars now. They said they would still give me a quote but it would be pricey. Know of anyone else?

Spoke to two shops:

Gearbox Factory - Approx price of $450 + gst for HD Exedy clutch and $500 +gst for labour - $1000 + gst
Kaspa Transmissions - Approx price of $600 + gst for HD clutch (not sure of brand) and $800 + gst for labour - $1400 + gst

What do you guys reckon? Has anyone got any work done by Gearbox factory?

When I worked at mazda the gearbox factory rebuilt a gearbox for us (warranty company wanted them to do it). Refitted it and a week later it was pissing oil out of every where that it could!

Turned out they used clear sealant when they rebuilt it. To me that is amateur hour stuff

Ouch, yeah I have read a few bad reviews on the net, so probably best to stay away then. Heard anything about Pitstop?

Pit stop is an exhaust shop who does brakes and WOFs. Just like Midas, that's about as much as I would let them do!

Have you spoken to Mitsi Newmarket? Paid members here get a discount (at least we use to anyway)

Also Bill at ralliart would be good. I'm a believer that I would rather pay a bit more and get it done right!

Personally, I hope I never have to do another vr4 clutch again! Not a difficult job as such, just time consuming!

Ok may have finally found someone to get my clutch done! Mowbray Automotive quoted me $1200 including gst for the whole job including an Exedy Heavy Duty clutch. What do you guys reckon? Anyone had work done through them?
