When the Legnum crashed last year I bought a cheap V6 N/A Elegance Galant (saloon). It looked a bit tired, felt like a proper car though.

So I started doing some welding, and then did a 'bit' more work to it:

And then some more...

Added Nardi steering wheel (converted to house the factory cruise control)
17" wheels refurbished myself
Aluminium inbus lightwheight wheelnuts for the narrow holes
Replaced the gearbox
Replaced the clutch & pressure plate
Replaced gearbox oil (Amsoil MTF)
Replaced air filter
Replaced downpipe flex-piece
Temporary placed clear corner and side repeaters
Replaced torn vacuumhose
Removed a sh*tload of aftermarket crap wiring, hoses and cr*p from the car
Replaced oil cap o-ring
Replace coolant reservoir cap
Replaced ABS sensor ring left rear
Placed a set of bonnet gas struts
Made a subwoofer plate in spare wheel well
Placed a grounding cable kit in the engine
Upholsered centre console parts in white leather
Flushed old oil (Amsoil)
Fresh oil Amsoil 0W30
Rewelded the sump from the inside (instead of the outside fail weld from some amateur)
Replaced the fuel pipe filler pipe
Replaced the fuel filter
Installed HC tacho
Placed TEIN coilovers (refurbished myself) with EDFC
Installed a low profile rear spoiler
Replaced complete coolant fluid
Placed facelift rear lights where I the removed red lines in the clear cluster
Replaced stabilisor rods/track end rods front side
Replaced sway bar rubbers rear side
Replaced belts for PS/Airco & alternator
Replaced pulleys for alternator belt and PS/Airco belt
Replaced both steering rack rods
Replaced clutch cylinder fluid (ATE Super Blue Racing DOT4)
Replaced flexible brake hoses (Goodridge stainless braided)
Replaced brake fluid (ATE Super Blue Racing DOT4)
Replaced worn gear selector bushing for Ross motorsport 'EVO' upgraded version
Added facelift wheel arch extentions
Added facelift rear extensions
Replaced interior and interior filter
Replaced windscreen wipers
Replaced spark plugs (NGK PFR6G-11)
Added 2DIN radio/sat-nav (JVC)
Tinted door windows lightly
Sound dampened all doors
Sound dampened complete trunk and bottom
Replaced front and added rear door speakers
Replaced beige carpet for black
Replaced beige sky liner for fresh grey
Replaced beige A, B and C-styles for fresh grey
Replaced beige seatbelts for black
Replaced beige doorcards for black and added rear door Legnum black undersides with factory speaker mesh
Replaced beige rear shelf for black, incl speaker grilles and brake lamp
Replace complete dashboard for new one with all black underside (the original top half of the dash had 3 screw holes...)
Replaced all beige seats for black
Replaced plastic hand break lever cover for leather version
Added stainless door sills
Replaced pre-facelift front bumper for a customized facelift bumper (added lip, added wheel arch extensions, widened recess for licence plate)

Now all that's left to do:

- hook up alarm
- weld rear wheel arches
- customize VR4 PFL side skirts to hook up with FL arch extensions
- repaint the complete exterior to Pearl White (like the Legnum was)
- add wind visors
- add ganador side mirrors
- add the Varex rear muffler

Brilliant project with the Monster Mark. Love seeing your work unfold - Doesn't seem to be much you can't turn your hand to.

Impressive work :) It's like a new car now
Noticed in one pic that is has some rust around the front strut tower. My V6 had the same, had to cut and weld beacuse it was rusted from underneath. There is a hidden hollow space there that is prone to rust

Well spotted Anders. I did take out a fair bit of rusted metal from both the top and underside and welded fresh new metal in. Plus treated the inside with anti corrosive stuff.

Crazy guy... :) Nice job, really nice!

I'd love to have my Legnum with a manual gearbox too but funds don't allow (yet).

The old gal has gotten a couple of changes, upgrades and improvements these last couple of weeks.

First was the complete interiour swap to all-black, including the grey-ish a, b & c pillars + roofpanels, safelty belt (black), etc, etc. Now that everything was out, I completely covered all floor panels, doors, complete trunk, etc, etc with sound-dampening material (dynamat-like + at all possible & hollow spaces a filt+vinyl layer. Insane job, it does help with keeping out outside noise.

I also swapped the complete dashboard as the previous owner drilled 3 holes in it for a carkit...

I upholstered the centre console in white (fake) leather and changed a few things to make it look and fit better (created a perfect fit 2DIN opening for my headunit). I plan on doing a few other items in the car in white leather, which will suit the car perfectly once it's been painted pearl white.

64320

Also made hybrid rear doorcards (combining Legnum rear underside with speaker grille with a sedan leather top).

6432464323

Additional speakers and amp are installed now as well as an alarm with remote locking in a modern flip-key. Just like the HC-dash unit which makes the whole interiour so much more modern. In the cockpit picture above there is also a very subtle little customized feature added. I wonder who will notice it :)

Yesterday and today I created a set of custom side-skirts. They're a hybrid between PFL VR4 skirts and FL VR4 skirts. I personally like the PFL curves better than the boring straight lines from the FL version skirt. But... the FL fender flares will only mate properly with the wider FL connection-point-thingy. So I cut up a set of FL skirts and transferred the wanted piece to the PFL skirt. Quite some work, but I got it done beyond my own expectation, so very happy with the result!

Today I primed, color painted and clear coated them, so I'll mount them to the car tomorrow.
I'm convinced it will look soooo much better, I can hardly wait :)

To be continued!

Is it a mic for bluetooth hands-free ?
That much extra sound insulation should make it quiet, nice work

The mic is indeed for the bluetooth carkit which is integrated in the headunit, but that isn't what I reffered to as a subtle custom feature :)

Someones nicked your fag lighter?!

MarkSanne

Nope. FYI: I don't smoke + upholstering that thing is crazy difficult so I smoothed it flat + iphone charger cables are now neatly coming from underneath the arm rest space.

Keep looking guys :)

Yesterday we had a little GalantFans clubmeeting, so just before leaving off, I vacuumed the car.

Upto that point the car looked like this:
64431

10 minutes later it looked like this:
64432

I forgot to use the parking brake and the car had rolled itself across the street until it was stopped by a concrete border, shattering the customized front bumper.
Today I started re-doing several of the same customizations to a fresh bumper. Still it was quite a pain to see all that work gone in 5 seconds.

Freshly painted new bumper is on the car :)

Also put on the Ganador side mirrors which I repainted in black plus added mirror heating to them so they're now offering the complete package :)
Looks sooooo much better.

top job! impressive, really impressive. a shame you are so far away from my place...

btw, how did you manage to add heating to them?

MarkSanne

Stefan, I connected a self-adhesive heating-pad to the back of the mirror (available from Conrad.de). On the dutch forum I've made a topic on my Ganador(s) make-overs (I have 2 sets, one set of each Galant). It has ofcourse some dutch texts, but just looking at the pictures will explain it all (and maybe the dutch is somewhat readable for you and/or use google translate or if you need something specific that you don't understand, let me know!). The other set of Ganadors will also get a stealthy side-repeater 'blinker' function, you'll see it on the pics :)

Now I'm on speed I started the last bit of custom bodywork that I had planned for the car. The base is a regular N/A rear bumper but the twist will be 2 things:

1. a sporty grille, somewhat similar to the Facelift sedan rear bumper, but ofcourse, that would have been too easy :) so I cut a piece from tha original pfl V6 N/A front (!) bumper (the lowest part) and have melted it into a spare rear bumper. I'm pretty sure it'll look really good.

2. the facelift side extension (used to accomodate the fender flares) require a wider rear bumper at the lowest part. So I'm gonna try to re-create that wider body onto the pfl bumper.
