Does anyone knows how much is the steering rack for GLS 99 model?
Also any other recommendation instead of getting from Mitsubushi?

First be sure it's really the rack you need - one member recently had his garge tell him he needed a rack (which I think from mitsi is 1K+) when the rack ends where the issue (a much different story at about £30 each)

Do a search for steering rack and you ought to turn up the thread I'm on about.

Ron - It will almost certainly be your steering rack ends, NOT the entire rack that needs replacing, as Adam says. Before I bought my previous car (My EA2A GLS), it needed a new rack end in order to get through the MOT. I think it´s a fairly common thing.

We were told by two seperate garages (one a Mitsi specialist) that we needed a new steering rack - the third one fixed it for about £120 :)

As has already been said - it could easily be the track rod ends - there is loads of info on here if you search under steering rack - it's obviously a common problem :(

If all else fails there are many firms that recondition racks - try a web search or look at the back of any classic car mag.

I'm having my rack replaced witha recon one next week from http://www.powersteering.co.uk in Charlton, London - recommended to me by the mechanic I have used for many years. Cost is £150 or £275 depending on the condition of the rack and if a certain aluminium part needs replacing (no doubt it will!). Fitting is of course extra, but shouldn't be more than 2.5 - 3 hrs labour.
