Hi guys, im Lee
1st time on here, im on my 2nd legnum estate, the last one was tuned by nemesis running 350bhp, however the one ive got now is having a single turbo conversion, uprated twin intercooler, a fully forged engine, the works.
Im hopeing to achieve 700bhp, however I have the autobox, ive heard an evo 8 gearbox is very useful for gains, is this true and has anyone done it?

Single turbo has been done (although just once or twice) but twin-intercoolers let alone 700bhp... don't think so!
In regards to the EVO8 gearbox I have no idea, doesn't ring a bell to me, but I'm most certainly not all-knowing so hopefully others will join in.

Very interesting project! Please keep posting!

The evo 8 gearbox is not a straight swap and will require some modifications to the bell housing.

I'm not sure anyone has had that sort of power except for possibly Richard (zentac) with this VR4 powered FTO drag car.

Welcome to the club.

I guess it depends, but the 5 speed gearbox from the evo 8 only needs a bell housing change to fit perfectly. There are one or two 6 speed conversions out there, but as they are less strong than the 5 speed I'm not sure that they are an upgrade.

Hi guys just keeping u up to date, where my legnums getting tuned the bloke is a Mitsu guru mechanic stroke god,and his just finished a scooby super charged/garret turbo conversion, rolling road at 1200bhp,he has fitted new turret tops cuz the other ones were shocking n rotten. the twin intercooler kits been ordered and dc2 8 pot callipers n discs n pads/followed by dc manual adjustment camber touring car suspension. I'm so happy. anyway the engines being ripped out and fully forged to hold power output to 850bhp,costing me loads but i don't give a **** lol. and thats all happening next week when i drop the wonga in, I'm gonna run a fur off actuater. and a power plant mushroom filter off the turbo swell. and twin bespoke induction by greedy, moving the battery to the boot to give me more space for forced induction, its gonna be mega quick and when its done i will gladly show the rolling road printout and my legnum vr4 estate, the max bhp I'm looking for realistically is 600bhp -700bhp either way it will be fukin quick.

Ive made a promise to race my mates jza80 supra,at santa pod. so look out for me next year guys!!!

Sounds interesting! Are you sticking with auto or going for manual?

well theres a place in wolverhampton that do supra 1500bhp auto box conversions, that was pointed out to me by pj motorsport and there meant to be very good at uprating the auto boxes, mind u it wud be rare to have 600bhp-700bhp auto don't u think?

Very interesting! Keep us posted. I understand that a fair few high power dragsters use auto boxes so high power stuff is possible, just never seen on vr4s!

If I remember correctly, Gareth had transmission issues at 450bhp. If he is still around, it maybe worth a chat with him.

I think the gearbox was okay on Gowfs car? He definitely blew a stock AYC diff and a stock transfer box though. His car was a manual, with a carbon triple clutch IIRC, so shock loading of the drivetrain could have been quite significant.

it will be nice to see what happens when you buy a £2K-3k car a throw about £20K at it in mods all in one go.

sound very interesting.

20k is a fairly optomistic quote. It is by no means easy to do this, and unlike scoobies, supras, evos, it has never been done so even if you achieve 700bhp you have no idea how long it will last.

The one thing you will need to do is put an RS diff in the car, the AYC will not take it, that I know! As for the transfer box, Evos do cope so it should be ok, but you will find that you will shear your output shaft if you are doing anything silly with it. That being said, you can obviously buy the ricardo shaft that stops that. Also if you then find you have gearbox issues, I do currently have an E8 Drenth short ratio dog box for sale. 100 stage miles on it and will be open for inspection should you want to, all for the bargain price of £4k.

You will also need to do more than just forge the engine if you want it to work. For a start you need cams, and as far as I am aware I am the only person in the UK who has designed a set of billet cams (there are 2 sets out there) but you are again looking at around £1800 for a set of those and then you need valve springs etc....

I am currently building something quite special, which will hopefully be mapped (providing I install my new DD rolling road) by the end of Jan. The proof will be in the pudding with that, and i will post up a full build spec with problems encountered etc providing the owner allows me to do so.

Good luck with it, and its always a damn sight easier giving it to someone else to deal with the headaches!

Thanks guys for your advice I will run this by the guru whos doing my legnum, and regarding cams n pulley and all internals, high pressure fuel regulator ,Iis all going on the car, it will be stealth regarding the dbl intercooler I will get sum pics when that is fitted, also im worried about the driveshafts, I think I shud replacecthem aswell, gowf I will look forward to seeing ur special project keep in touch, I will be going to see my lady 2mora I aint seen her for a while, ive been waiting for the turret tops to be done cuz they were rotten, when I brought her the bloke said it was paint flaking, what a load a bollox, its a good job im having all this work done cuz I will know that its sound n solid.

I will keep you all posted guys !!!!

Camber adjustment doesn't work from the struts, we have double wishbone suspension.
