Hey guys,

So tomorrow my Teins finally get certified.
Is there a standard height that they certify the car for or am i supposed to advise what height i want it at?
Any body know what height in mm is a good height etc any examples etc?

Cheers

My Legnum is certed for adjustable what doesn't have anymore

For height it says front 360mm Rear 350mm with + or - 5%

Whatever height you take the car to be certed as will be printed on the plate. So make sure you're happy with the height as you can't adjust it more than 5% later on.

Also make sure the chassis has at least 100mm ground clearance. Exhaust doesn't count.

also under the new rules, camber actually does matter, you most likely will have a print out of a recent wheel alignment

oh and the height mentioned above is from the center of the hub to the edge of the wheel arch.

make sure your happy with everything, including wheel size/tyre size/offset, it all goes on the cert.

any other mods intercooler, seats, Etc. as it will all be checked over

As Carsten said - camber has to be within manufactures specs to get a cert now so this will limit how low you can go.

They will also look at every other mod on the car

rear camber is far worse than the front with these cars. but if you must absolutly have the low then you can do the camber correction mod by spacing the upper A arm out from the body.

When going for cert, they will ask for a wheel alignment sheet for camber etc as mentioned above so you will be looked kindly upon if you turn up with the wheel alignment sheet dated and in hand. will make the certifier less likely to pick holes.

as per your post on the facebook page my car is set at 343mm front and 340 rear. and I find its a good ride height. not so low its a pain to get around bumps/steep driveways.

The camber rules are reasonably new (maybe a year old now?).

wow thats not allowing much adjustment half a degree from factory max tolerance
im over by about a degree on both and front and rear lol

Factory is specified as a range though, isn't it?

wheels don't have to be certed anymore if they meet certain req's

your speedo is still accurate and the wheels are not wide enough to cause the rubber to wear on the wheel arches.

I'm over the factory camber at standard height according to the alignment machine, so I'm screwed for coilovers.

Standard camber is:
Front - 0.00 +/- .30 with difference between left and right less than 0.30
Rear - -1.00 +/- .30

This is how mine sits with Tein springs on KYB stocks,

Would hate to see how it would be like on coilovers

Lol my last wheel alignment is:

Front: Left -1.54
Right -2.00

Rear: Left -1.24
Right -1.42

Yeah its factory setting + factory tolerance + 0.5deg

so taking the data Jeremy put
Front:
0.00 + (-0.3) + (-0.5) = -0.8
Rear:
-1 + (-0.3) + (-0.5) = -1.8

those are technically the maximum values allowed for our cars

Not alot of adjustment, but lvvta do have a point, unless its a targa car, or dedicated race car (which you can get exemption for if you have an authority card and log book) you dont need excessive camber for road driving. Its the twats with their tyres half off the ground due to camber for that "hella flush" look with cars that are dangerous to drive at speed on the road which force the authorities to regulate it for other peoples safety.
a typical case of the few ruin it for the many.

Just a shame adjustable arms are not readily available for our cars so we can have our cars lowered and within legal spec and then adjust the geometry for track use if need be.

"In any case where a vehicle’s camber exceeds that recommended by the vehicle’s manufacturer, the LVV Certifier must ensure that the requirements contained in 2.2(2)(a), 2.3(8), and 2.4(1) (referred to earlier in this LVVTA Information Sheet) of the LVVTA suspension standard have been met. The LVV Certifier must also take extra care in ensuring that the vehicle is safe and fit for purpose, based upon the following factors:
 tyre width – the effects of added negative camber are more pronounced when wide, low-profile tyres are fitted; and
 road and brake performance test results; and
 the vehicle manufacturer’s wheel alignment specification"

If i interpret that right. you can get away with the more than 0.5deg over manufacturers specs as long as the certifier is happy with the car being safe and the rest of the suspension geometry is not adversely affected by the extra camber

i see where they are coming from lol, the guy tokoroa is good, he probably will cert it if it over recommended camber, my front is at -2.4 and rear is -4.1(going by memory) and all the tyre is on the ground handles like a dream on corners etc but in the document it says that it will be reviewed again for the camber limits, but yes i think you interpreting its correctly lol

Ive been told that you can have it over as long as it didnt look excessive for photos then it would be fine.

all in all it all depends on the Certifier and how strict they are(i know a few who would not even allow for anything over the new limit even if 99% of the tyres are touching the road)

Ok well my cert plate has just arrived. Certed for wheels, adjusties, steerting wheel, fmic, brembos etc.
No wof or alignment sheet. In and out.
