I done just under 380kms to a tank, Over half of my driving is on a country road, Been trying to driving nicely and staying off boost as much I can with having it good boot now and then.

$112 to full just over 52 liters of 95 octane

300 to a tank! f**k me! are you towing a huge boat around everywhere you go?

I only get that kind of shocking fuel economy when I was giving it alot a right foot.

usually get between 400 and 450km to a tank with around town driving, bit of motorway stuff occasionally. and that was after I put my cams in which im sure didnt help economy

Jeeeesus thats some horrific gas use - like "is something not working right" type shocking

Are you driving it solely foot-flat or from cold starts and thats it?

I remember one of my 7G's did similar when the 02 sensor died a death by avgas

I get 420km per 55L of fuel
Gas light comes on with 15L in tank lol
If i get into boost and play with the car a bit i get about 340km to 55L
I also run 16ish psi
$78 for 55L of Sunoco 94

Kenneth

I get pretty good economy, in my experience the following is a good path to follow.

The things I would check
1) Driving style. Don't let the intake pressure get out of the -21inHg -10inHg range (requires accelerating VERY slowly) and see how you go. If you get 550+ out of a tank, its not really worth persuing the rest of the list :P
2) O2 sensor
3) Boost leak test
4) Make sure you are not getting excessive knock (i.e. running 14+ psi on standard intercooler will put you on low octane maps)
5) Get injectors cleaned (or new ones, I got ID1000s)
6) Get a tune

You forgot one important thing between 1 and 2 :P check your spark plugs are good. These make a HUGE difference to economy.

Nope its a recirc one, looks like a knock off GFB one.

I need new plugs but I cant find anywhere that sells BKR7IEX, was going to replace the O2 sensor when I get an AFR gauge and sensor. Def need a tune/remap but pretty sure theres no one up here that could do it, still have a few things to put on the car like fpr, large bore fuel rail adaptor, walbro fuel pump, ebc

Yeah, thats true. And also running high boost with standard ones probably won't help keep detonation at bay.

hi guys, just done a longish drive this weekend to napier from wellington via Manfield . I did 452.7km on almost a tank full (47.25l) , as the fuel light had just started to come on.

to my calcs this is about 9.58km/l or 10.4l per 100km (or 27.1mpg old school)

thought I might have got a few more km/l with a 5 speed manual and not speeding much - cruising about 104km/hr this weekend :(

Tanga
28-10-2013, 07:49 AM
Wow, this post took off haha.

I went Auckland to Whangarei this weekend return, was full tank when I left, had 1/4 left when I got back - 320kms, $80 of 98 Octane @ $2.26/L

As to km/l - Dunno lol

Def think I need to look at o2 sensor

apparently mechanical have better response, unless you want features like memory, i dont see the need to electric, i assume mechanical are easier to install

Electronic gauges use less vacuum piping so theoretically less lag. And there's not the worry of a pipe coming into the cabin that can get damaged, pop off or leak.

I hate the lot of you, i went from Auckland to levin and back this long weekend filled up in Auckland got to Taupo about 307km and had 1/4 tank left filled up again and made it to levin with about 1/4 left so about 1.5 tanks worth of gas just to get their and the same back, 1200km and around $320 on gas. FML haha

Yikes something is definitely not right with your car. I was able to get to Taupo from BP Drury (about 290km) on 25ish litres of 98, and that's including boosting and two passengers with a sub box.

$320 at what i pay for 98, 2.289 at the moment i think, 140 litres, 8.5k/l not bad, i think i got less than that doing a few ks rounds tga then heading to auckland and doing a bit of driving there

I find that when I top up with gas... I always work at 10km per litre of gas. yesterday put in some 22l of gas. I should make an easy 220km from that around town. more if I long distance it. but not that much more..

last time I did a long drive was owera to wellington..
tank and a third I think it was.. and that was with a hitch hiker from taupo. of and the hose from the bov came loose in aucks but I never noticed till someone pointed it out. not sure if that ever made a difference or not.

roll on may 2014 I wanna goto the dark side they have rwd and pizza's and lotsa V :)

Got me rethinking if I want another VR4 now!

My last legacy (2L B4 shape) got a consistent 600km plus from a full tank (50l to light on) on the open road - even my auto/turbo airtrek got better economy than what you guys are reporting :S

wintertidenz
04-11-2013, 05:40 AM
Once the cars are retuned they are fine, or if you're on the open road with gentle acceleration. I've gotten 560km to 50ish litres in a single trip round the Coromandel before with a full car load.

Badger_01
04-11-2013, 05:58 AM
I desperately need my car tuned/retuned. Like I dont go anywhere besides work and getting less than 300kms a tank, so fulling up every 2nd week, pretty much pay day and boom $100-120 gone straight away just on fuel :(

Bender
04-11-2013, 06:25 AM
Or maybe we all just have to heavy of a right foot???

wintertidenz
04-11-2013, 07:06 AM
Round town + heavy foot = petrol gone really quick.

Get a wideband and readjust the narrowband emulation slightly and you might find an improvement. Again, fresh plugs and filters will make a big difference, as will checking for and fixing boost leaks.

Adam.Findlay
04-11-2013, 12:20 PM
plus if you get a wideband and adjusting the narrowband enulation does not do the job you can always adjust the MAF screw to lean it out. I did that, and when I finally got access to an openport 2.0 cable to reflash the fuel maps I didnt have to change bugger all of the fuel map because the MAF screw mod had got the AFR's almost bang on. made it drink a bit less gas.

but seriously guys you must have heavy feet. I have a bloody heavy foot I must admit and I still can get ~450 to a tank without having to be too careful.

SEAN-NZ

i somehow managed to get an average of 9.5km/L, filled it up in tauranga, headed to auckland, over 200k trip, cant remember now, then did some driving around, did a total of 453k before filling up to come home, i tried to be light on the throttle on the way up and around town, clearly made a difference, would have wasted that entire fuel saving coming back though haha

Badger_01
04-11-2013, 07:21 PM
I use more fuel than what I did when the car was an auto hahaha.

So messed up. I don't really give it sh*t much anymore, I still need to change my plugs and do a boost leak test. Hard when working cause I cant be f**king bothered to do anything during the weekend haha.

PLus can't really do anything this weekend as working doing the V 4s and Rotary show :)

Bender

hi all I did trip to donington park last week and I have done 9.5litres per 100 km this is out town driving but the car it is not standard I am on the end of td 04 project I just need to fit new injectors an remmap the ECU which will be soon, any way as soon as put td04 turbos I felt difference about economy I think that is because of the turbo spool starts later than the stock ones it is spools after 4k if you drive up to 4k the economy is very good (with stock injectors) I don,t know after the new ones but I think will be not much big difference. my upgrades so far fuel pump wallboro, evo 8 intercooler,evo8 clutch with lighter flywheel,FPR,magnessor cables ,cooler box for the air filter ,spark plugs, oil temp and pressure sensors with gauges,of course two td04 turbos+ kunigava aqtuators ,2.5 into 3inches exhaust ,custom exhaust manifolds to fix the turbos on,boos controller greedy. NEEDS to fix bigger injectors and o2 sensor and remmap
