Hi Guys,

I started the car up this morning to come to work and the first things I noticed was that initialy my dash was a very dull orange/brown instead of white to start with. After a few seconds it brightened up and worked fine, am I correct in saying these are lit with flourescent tubes? If so are these known to start failing in the cold?

Of course my next question would be how do I change them?:mask:

Cheers dudes

Assumption correct. Fix: replace tubes. Changing them is not really hard, just open up the dash cluster (40 screws, save them in the correct location/postion!). Where to find these tubes... that is the hard part I guess!

Catode tubes are soldered to a dash circuit board. Replacing them is real PITA job!
Easier to replace whole speedo. ;)

It reminds me of the EMV (multi function colour touchscreen thingy) on my old Lexus Soarer v8, the tubes used to fail in the cold and you couldn't use the heater or stereo controls!

i thought that the back light was cold cathode tubes as well, rather than flourescent tubes as those use very high voltages for starting conditions and are quite fragile.

Yeah that's what I thought. I was guesstimating at about £50 delivered but as wasn't really sure, thought I would check eBay. I think, even on crack, that's some extreme pricing /haz

It is but don't really want to split from the other bits
