If i fit one would i need a remap? as i would have to refit for mot!

And does it make much of a difference without a cat?

Depends on what you have done/ are doing to the engine!!

A decat in and of it's self will not see any noticible gains in performance. Yes it will improve throttle responce and decrease the time taken for the tubs to spool due to the lack of restriction in the exhaust system, but if you honestly notice any gain from just a cat removale then you are a better man than me.

If, however it is coupled with a filter replacement (K&N panel, others are available) and a free flow exhaust then there will be a small, almost imperceptable differance. Perhaps around 5 - 8 bhp and improved throttle responce.Personaly I wouldn't go for a pod as this sucks in lots of hot air when mounted to the MAF. Those that know my car may say that is a touch hipocritical as I have a single K&N tube filter for each tub, but honestly my other VR4 ran pish with a pod/mushroom filter fitted.

Exhaust is louder without cat. I noticed that when I bashed out the insides of mine. Though could be because I haven't reconnected the rear muffler haha

I have a mushroon fitted too i was given it so put it on i think if the gains were noticable i might have taken it off wen i fit a new exhaust theres also the hassle of refitting the cat for the Mot so think i'll leave it on lol

If you have already got rid of the stock back box then a decat will make a difference. No remapping should be required, assuming that your car is running well at the moment.

All stock exhausts are interchangeable between facelift and PFL. Aftermarket downpipes can have fitment issues though.

Had a stroke of luck a mate of mine has had a look at my exhuast he says he can repair it i didn't know he specialises in custom exhausts and welding so has saved me a fortune even more at mates rates and this side of Xmas is a god send:-)

Hi mark,
When I bought my exhaust, decat and bov of Steve and I fitted a K&N panel filter I spoke to Steve and Ben at eurospec and then said just disconnect the battery for about 20 mins and then start the car and let it idle for 20 mins with the Heater on coldest setting and biggest fan settings and the car will sort itself. Ben at eurospec said it only needs rolling road with ebc, ecu re flash and fpr. Which when I get all these I'm going to see foxdie and try and get the ecu remapped.

With the mods I have do far it made a huge difference to my car, it was easier to get off the line and feels stronger and goes psssssh which obviously adds 100 hp.

Cheers
Marc
