I do plan to do at some point.

Have you put your down the track before?

I have been to a track day where at the lunch break they closed off the front straight, marked out 1/4 mile and just had a guy with a stopwatch timing it. so not accurate at all but I did a 13.4 with the stopwatch timer.

Hence why I'm defiantly keen to see how close to accurate that was by going down with the correct timing gear, get 60' time and end trap speed.

Pretty normal times then? I was reading old thread on here and the member done 12.9 with a Galant.

If I'm able to do high 13 or low 14, It would keep me happy.

we are in NZ.
I myself live in Christchurch which does not had a dedicated drag strip. just a short prepped section which runs onto the front straight of the local race track. so drag meets can only be held when the track is not in use.

Nightwars is fun! Theres usually a variety of cars there which makes things interesting. I'd like to go again but Im only working 20hrs a week so cant afford to smash a transfercase / anything else at the moment lol. Is there no drag strip at all in the south island Adam?

There is one in nelson I think. but a bit far to drive considering I will, as you so accurately said break something. heh my clutch is quite unforgiving..

It only thing I'm worried about if/when I go about breaking something

Yeah thats a long way to travel, especially if you end up with a broken car! One of my friends has been through a couple transfer cases with his evo from launching it, Im not that keen to follow suit after seeing what a pain it is swapping it out. I have a love/hate relationship with my clutch :P

TC cases are EASY to swap. its if you break that hollow shaft which runs between the centre diff and TC case thats a bastard to fix!

Oh that shaft is exactly what he breaks! Sorry, I call it part of the transfer case because I don't know any better :P

why does he not get the upgraded one from PPG if he keeps breaking the stock one.

Probably because it was a lot cheaper lol. Would the Ppg one fit a vr4?

Adam.Findlay

yep they are the same.
and at 400 bucks its about the same as buying whole stock evo gearbox just to pillage that shaft out of

The Evo9 one was $198 + GST from Bill at Ralliart in 2010

Part number MN139254

Evo 9 part number is different to previous evos, though the part appears the same. Theory is that they may have changed the material or something to make it stronger.

wonder how the E9 compares to the PPG one.

PPG being more than twice the price of the E9 one, you should hope its significantly better

Kenneth

You would hope so, but then there is no way that PPG have the production quantities that Mitsubishi have. I was going to go with a PPG one but since I now send 65% of torque to the rear and have no VC, I didn't feel that it was urgent (at least not as urgent as getting by car back on the road at the time)

I was lucky, the shaft was twisted just enough so that it was really tight to get on/off the front drive gear (and wouldn't go into the tarmac gear planet gear) but didn't look twisted to the naked eye.
