No idea. Other than strip and visually inspect. Why do you ask? I thought you were investigating the rear diff?

Had a look at the rear diff today and everything seems fine. But seems yo be a grinding noise at the transfer box not loud but have my old transfer box that a took of when we done the gearbox we put another transfer box on yp be on the safe side was just wanting to check it as aont a big job changing it

When you say everything seems fine, why do you say that? What have you done to check it? I think I know the car that the transfer box you are now running came from, and it was running fine before - I realise that is not a guarantee of it being fine now, but you can see why I think it is likely to be something else. The other questions would be what oils did you use when you swapped the parts over?

Amsoil oil was used. Car was jacked IP at rear rear wheels are turning no problem at all. Took the prop from transfer box off and rear wheels still moving. But if u start it and go to move there's a grinding noise from transfer but x which sort of gives it away that's where the problem is

Okay dude. I'm not aware of any test with the box out of the car, other than to strip it.

If you turn the output shaft on the tranfere box that the prop fits to it should be smooth no noise, when you fitted gearbox did you fill the transfere box with oil as its separate to gearbox ?(i had this on a evo i had )

It only takes approx two thirds of a litre.

i know they dont hold much oil which is why its possible to get it wrong and cause problems

Can't mind how much it took a think it was about half a litre maybe just less so I might have buggered it myself. I'll try topping it IP again see if it makes any difference but a doubt it as it sounds pretty knackered tbh
