Hi

I've been through the search but haven't found any threads with the same problem as mine.

When ever I start my car the TCL off light is constantly flashing. During the start up procedure all my other lights come on and go off as they should, red AYC lights comes on and goes off as do the green bars, the EML goes out as well. I'm just left with the flashing TCL off light. Even when driving the TCL light flashes away. The switch doesn't seam to have any effect at all. Can anybody throw some light on this for me.

Cheers

Could be one of the little black control boxes on the bulkhead next to fuel resister they get blocked and stop the tcl working also check the vac lines to them aswell

Is it an automatic that has been converted to manual, or had a new autobox at some point?

It's not a manual but their could be a chance that the auto box has been replaced, I've no paperwork to say that it has though. I've paper work for a diff and transfer box replacement.

How does the box change gears - all smooth?

Yep silky smooth, kicks down with no jerkiness aswell.

Have you done the flashy dash code check?

Got to be done!

I don't think there is a gearbox/ECU mismatch. Perhaps the fault codes will help with diagnosis. /yes

There is a section in that post about checking fault codes stored on the ecu.

I've done the flashy dash code check and it pull up a TCL code 71. I've looked that up and it's a "system next sensor circuit G", what does that mean?

Worth a check of the G sensors located in the centre console under the armrest cubby. Check the connectors to the sensors located there in case they're loose.

Checked all the connectors under the armrest cubby, all seam fine. Took them out and clean them and reconnected them. TCL still flashing though.

Does the skiddy car light come on and go off at start up too? It's next to the TCL OFF light.

Yep skiddy car light goes off, as soon as I start the car the TCL off light comes on and flashes away.

So other than the light flashing, the car drives fine, and you've not noticed any unusual behaviour on the limit of grip, in the wet, or in icy conditions, etc.?

Just switch it off (switch by drivers right knee) that should stop it flashing and you won't notice any difference unless you are doing massive launches.

He's already said in the first post that the switch has no effect. This is certainly a strange one!

I thought the vacuum canister was related to TCL light ?

That's what I was hoping for but the fault code (TCL 71) is something to do with the G sensor circuit.

I may be looking to hard into this and it could be something simple, would a dodgy TCL switch be the culprit or even a boost leak?

Prob a boost/vacuum leak :)
Seems to be the cause of most things on these cars lol

I would check also throttle body gasket sitting properly. There are few vacuum channels to look at, and these have similar adverse effect.
Next, 2 solenoids on the firewall, next to vacuum canister.

After all, I have spare ayc/tcl sensors for sale, if yours faulty.

Could it be steering wheel sensor as thats part of tcl aswell has it been changed ?

Right I knew it would be something simple, I found a post from about 4 years ago which got me thinking. Just checked the connectors in the back of the switches and they were in the wrong ones, the TCL connector was in the heated windows and the heated windows in the TCL switch. Guess what no flashing TCL light any more.

Feel like a bit of a retard, thanks to everyone for their advice. It's nice to be on a forum where you get useful and friendly advice. Cheers.
