Long shot but looking for 7202 ecu for auto/tiptronic car, must have came from a car with TCL fitted.

Have been doing a lot of reading on mapping/flashing and I am looking to learn to map myself. It is to replace standard 7201 ecu in my early 1996 Legnum. Would preferably be flashed running standard set up so I can start from scratch. :)

Cheers

Will

Still looking for one, seems to be a few about from FL cars with no TCL but not from cars with TCL.

Almost no facelift cars had TCL.

It's proving quite difficult to get a 7202 I can use to replace my 7201.

Just grab any 7202, find a map for one with tcl and flash it to the one you buy.

There is an issue with that, although I can't remember what it is. I know Jason ( foxdie ) has had a 7202 that would not work on a tcl equipped car.

I didnt realise there was a difference to be honest. If nearly all facelifts don't have tcl and pretty much all pfl do, then surely it would be alot less heard of swapping the ecus?

Maybe 7202s designed for manual cars don't have the circuitry for tcl? AFAIK tcl was never available on a manual VR4. I don't remember the specifics, but I do remember Jason having to try a different ecu to get traction working on a pfl car.

I thought that was with the auto to manual conversions? Is the tcl not part of the asc or gearbox ecu?

I swapped from a 7201 to nj7201, to a 7202 while still auto, then converted to manual without changing the map for a week or two.

Cheers for the advise guys, it's complicated! :S

So you can't reflash the auto and tc files on a 7202 ecu

The auto ECU is a separate box, Darren. The TCL is also a separate box. From my VERY limited memory, some 7202s don't have an output on one particular pin which messes up the communication between the systems. However, don't quote me - it may be I misunderstood Jason at the time or I have remembered it incorrectly. I am so uncertain of my memory on this that I would take everything I have just typed with a large pinch of salt. The only thing I do remember is Jason using a different plastic cased ECU to solve a problem on an auto/tcl car that was struggling with the first plastic cased ecu he put on it.

I've decided to go a bit of a different root as there seems to be a bit of uncertainty on this issue. I've taken the plunge on the MMCflash dongle to try and map my current 7201 ECU myself. I already have the cable and Wideband gauge is going in the car this weekend if TNT Couriers ever show up.

I previously had a Clio 172 Cup which I mapped myself so have some (limited) experience of mapping. After spending what now feels like a lifetime reading different guides, tuning threads on here&ozvr4 and watching youtube instructional videos I fell like I am ready to give it a go... what could possibly go wrong? ;)

PS from reading every thread between here and ozvr4 what Nick says above seems likely to be the case regarding the feed from one pin on the ECU.

So you saying its no good buying a 7202 when most of tuners saying get one for pfl model

Whats worse that can happen

the asc/ays/tcl ecu is a all in one if its not communicating then you might have issues, im going the map my 7201 route as well

Structure of managment ayc/asc/tcl/abs is completely different between pfl and fl vehicles.

As Nick says, 7202 ecu are not compatibile with tcl vehicles unless you do disable tcl feature. IIRC fully working TCL is typical feature only for 7201 ecu.

IIRC, hybride H8 ecu been mongrel, where tcl was preserved in early fl models. This ecu is now flashable by EcuFlash or other freeware.

So you are saying get 7201 mapped and dont bother with 7202 ecu because of problems

Yes.
That's the easiest option if you want to keep a/t and tcl.

or find a pfl being broken that has a 7202 and tcl or just be luckly when you buy your car that has one fitted
