Hi guys so ive got a 4l bottle of castrol GTX 20w50 in my garage that my dad said I can use if I want , I looked at my dipstick and I know there's a tiny leak so it's time for an engine oil change . Is the oil I've got suitable ? I'm not fussed if it burns faster then the likes of 0w30 or others just as long as I could use it than rather throwing it away , opinions please .

I wouldn't use it. Maybe just as a flush, but not for anything more.

No I would not use it for running the car on, but as nick says, you could use it to as a flushing oil. I used to use a cheap and nasty 5w-30 for flushing when I needed to.

At best, mix it with a bottle of engine flush. I used some 15w50 as a flush oil with a bottle of flush well mixed in - the engine really didn't like it as it was far too thick.

Personally I wouldn't use it in any engine, unless it was for a quick flush out of the engine.
