Hey there,

Tom from Devon, i've seen a VR4 on eBay, not been to take a look yet but hopefully will in the next few days. Just wondering if anyone knows the car/anything specific to look out for! Item number 141207790678

Welcome to CVR4.

I don't know the car personally but looks ok. Very low miles.

Not sure where he's getting his info from, but there's more than 1 Legnum for sale in the country!

Always best to look at all your options and shop around, especially with these kind of cars.

hi and welcome to the club. Check out some of the newbie threads as the question of what to look out for covered endless times.

Service history
AYC works
no warning lights on dash
pulls cleanly in all gears - bo shudder going up hill in 4th or 5th
rusty wheel arches
oil leaks

good luck in your search

Make sure you have a good look around it and check oil if it only done that mileage i would be inclinded to change the oil and stereo as they will be first things to play up

i am sorry to say that the milage looks to be dodgey, unless the car has been stood not being driven for 3 years.
there are ways of not recording mileage on the odometer while driving around, it looks like the car should have driven to the MOT station and back and that is it in the last 3 years.
ask the owner where he takes it for an MOT then measure the milage from his house to the MOT station and see if it further than the recorded milage.

it just looks odd to me that the car has done 7 miles one year then 7 miles the next year, then 13 miles the following year.

I agree with Dave, something not quite right with the mileage...But i could be wrong,it is possible...good luck, and welcome...

It does seem to have stupidly low miles in between tests. I thought mine had covered low miles between mot's but even that managed a few hundred miles every year.

It wouldn't be the first time I had seen mileage like that. It could well be genuine. However, if the mileage is one of the reasons you are buying the car it is well worth checking it out. If the mileage is genuine then the car should be in excellent condition which could make it a very good buy. The rust that Tim mentioned looking for is a good idea - rear arches and front strut tops (look from underneath) are the worst places usually, but also check the underside of the boot. With low mileage should come low rust, but it's not guaranteed.

Have fun looking!

Hi and welcome to the club.

I'd be asking when the cam belt was done, if it was done 3-4 years ago, belts can deteriorate when they haven't been used very often. Also, why has done so little mileage in it, haven't done that much in mine due to 'technical issues' over the last year, so would be a bit suspect.

the point i was trying to make was if the MOT centre he says he uses is more than 3.5 miles from his house then the 7 miles on the clock is a fake milage.

I had a closer look on the listing, on the MOT cert it says it was MOT'd at the same place where its listed (the town is less than a mile long so this does check out, also done a basic Car/HPI check and only thing that was flagged was that it is an Import, i knew this already, last owner change was March 2007! Also saw the VIN on the MOT cert and this all tallyed with the check i did. im unable to go look til saturday so will see!

Hi Tom, welcome to the club

It looks a decent car. Follow the advice of the others above and have a good look around it.
Mileage could be totally genuine, I certainly know of some motors that barley turn a wheel year on year.
On the other hand he says 'THE MILEAGE IS GENUINE THE CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED AND HAS ONLY COVERED 130 MILES IN FOUR YEARS' but looking at the ticket, it's done 512 miles since the last mot 4 months ago and whenever the pics were taken. But, on balance, could just be that he wants to stretch it's legs cos they want to sell it and it's not been used for a while and at least it must go ok if it's done a few hundred miles in the last few months.
Clues to high mileage are excessive wear on things like the steering wheel, gear selector, pedals and left leg footrest, handbrake lever, seats especially drivers (but it looks to have had seat covers on in the last auction pics), carpets and mats again drivers mainly, CL/alarm button on key fob and any other instruments you use frequently like indicators, wipers, windows etc. If any look too worn for the displayed mileage, question why.

Last auction: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MITSUBISHI-LEGNUM-VR4-ESTATE-V6-2-5-TWIN-TURBO-NOT-EVO-WRX-M3-RS4-/141198176744?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item20e01131e8&nma=true&si=oKFXC2H6fmyMlmbjNEJtxYu7E%252FM%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

look to have done some miles since then (and had a good valet!)

Good luck with it anyway /rally

I did notice the winner only had 4 feedbacks to me that usually means one of 3 things. The guy was bidding on his own car or the bidder is not genuine and is not likely to cough up, he could however be a genuine bidder and you were just unlucky. The only other thing is, why the hell didn't you buy it when you went to see it?

He said he wanted to leave it to eBay, I did text him after the auction but the guy did collect it apparently!

I have one for sale although I realise it depends on what you're after.

It has some good mods. Most of which were expensive!
