View Full Version : Power Steering Pipe Internal Diameter
Hi all,
I am currently fitting Swinks old intercooler to my car (which is feckin huge - lots of body alteration going on.......) and i have access to some brass pipe which i can bend and was thinking about replacing the old PS cooler by cutting it and replacing with this pipe and i was wondering if anyone knows the internal diameter of the standard pipe?
I know some people have done this but i dont remember them mentioning a diameter.
Cheers

I've used 10mm copper pipe for exactly that job in the past.
Cheers nick, is that internal or external diameter?

I'm pretty sure that is external diameter. My understanding is that plumbers refer to pipe diameters as externals, as that is what the joints need to fit to. Wall thickness can vary without causing issues.
Sorry - to clarify, I believe the copper I used is 10mm outside diameter so the rubber PS pipework must be around 10mm internal diameter.
Hi nick,
Yeah that certainly makes sense, just need to source some rubber hose and go from there. You have eased my troubled mind.
Cheers

I just used a baby sized atf cooler for my ps cooler when I installed intercooler. :)

Why not take the aluminium pipe off and then just come off the rubber that the aluminium was connected to? If you do get hose, remember to get stuff that will cope with the oil. Fuel hose is probably the best to buy.

I used fuel hose with an ID of 9mm to manipulate mine when fitting my intercooler. I found that 10mm ID wasn't as good a fit.

Could you not re-use a small section of the old pipe? say, just the 'u-bend' bit?
AFAIK most people just bypass it when fitting an I-C kit.
