Got a horrible creaking coming from front. Read a few posts but was hoping to order some bits from camskill today to fix Saturday. Hoping it's just bushes, but what ones should I order to the most that are likely to cause this?

Cheers in advance.

Neil

When were your straight arms last replaced?

Not since I've owned it. Which is 18 months. Also don't recall seeing them being done in service history folder

Lower arms. It's usually the ball joint on the straight lower front arm.

i think the genuine ones are about 160 quid each, or they used to be.

dont use the car until it is changed

To be fair I don't think it is the lower arms. I think it's just a rubber bush that's dry as I was listen very carefully on the way home and nothing. No bangs, clunking or creaking. Until I stopped and reversed to park. It's almost once it's warmed up. I also turned the wheel etc before I drove home but was silent.

Or does it sill sound like arm?

I was under the impression that you can check the arms by starting the car up, stick it into drive with your foot on the brakes. Turn the wheel full lock side to side and see if you hear any creaking. That's what I did with my first one and they needed changing.

I've got a manual. So does that work in the same way?

Not 100% sure on the test method with manuals. Nick will know. These are the correct arms - http://www.camskill.co.uk/m22b0s1403p7603/Camskill_Products_-_Front_Bottom_Arm_-_Lateral_Arm_-_Legnum_VR4_EC5W_and_EC5A price seems to be per arm so not cheap

Dammmm. I thought it could be these. Will do the test now. If not will take it to my mates garage and get under the car Saturday. Will try that test now

Okay there is a small amount of creaking only when your close to full lock and this is happening both sides

From my experience I wouldn't drive it far until it's checked. I have had the mishap of these arms breaking whilst driving , not a pleasant experience at all. I am now ultra weary of any creaking coming from the front.

I won't be driving it far. Work and back and then to the garage.

Still sounds like the arms.

Still sounds like the arms.

Do you have any nick or is it best to buy new?

Nick Mann

Personally I would buy new and if I could afford it I would buy genuine. If I had to buy aftermarket then I would treat them as a perishable item with a 12 month shelf life.
It is still worth getting someone to check it out, but I would say based on experience of this problem, experience on the forums and your description it is 90% going to be the bottom arms.

I have a pair of genuine used arms in good nick, no cracking noises b4 removal and all rubbers are still fine, replaced them for new genuine set just to be on safe side pm me if you want them.

I got lucky with mine back on my first car thanks to Nick. The old set had a bit of play in the ball joints and had only just started creaking when I had them replaced. Is there a rough figure on how long they usually last? Current ones were replaced under the recall and still have the stickers on them but I don't know when that was done. Have you checked to see if your Legnum has had the recall work Neil1985?

AFAIK pre recall arms are prone to fail due to 'weak' rubber ball joints covers, rubber split and allow all crap to get in and damage ball joint, post lift arms are fine for long long time, never heard about failure of new version arms, easy to check, pre recall 19mm nut post recall/facelift 22mm nut on ball joint. Of course im talking about OE arms.

Are the galant estates the same as what's on the legnums?

Thanks Adam I will get back to you once I know what the problem is.

So you think I should call Mitsi? As I'm sure they haven't been done.

The usual method of checking is via the info on this thread - http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?5201-Check-your-cars-recall-status-in-Japan&highlight=Recall

I used the form on the Mitsubishi UK website, took around two weeks to get the comfirmation that the work had already been carried out.

Neil1985

Mitsi UK are a helpful bunch aren't they. Can't find my car on system so I sent a recall request form to head office. Take up to 3 weeks to hear back.

Should take less, same thing happened to me.

have you looked on the Japanese recall site. You can fairly easily work out what work was done whilst the car was in Japan.

Or look if you have circle shape stickers at the back windows as they recall stickers, i know it will not say what actually has been done, just as quick indicator of recall status.

Neil1985
20-06-2014, 08:41 PM
I did try to load it but took me to yahoo. Will try again.

I do have 1 or 2 circle stickers in the back window yes.

it is the number in the middle of the sticker that says what recall they refer to.
the recall numbers and issue are posted up on this in a number of location so it should be easy to find.

Neil1985

The sticker I have says 1003

Can't see any excess play with the arm. Or any other bush.

But I did come across this. Lh inner cv boot gone.
