Does your neutral light flash? (I think I saw it in the video). If this is happening the gearbox has gone into safe mode.

You should be able to pull the diagnostic codes from the ECU.

Other thing to check would be the fluid level to ensure its not low, as this can cause issues.

A quick search using the words safe mode returns several threads where people have had similar problems.

Here is one to get you started... http://www.clubvr4.com/forum/showthread.php?63628-transmission-issues&highlight=safe+mode

Sorry about the "dummies" bit but it's quicker than typing an explanation :)

Im a dummy :P cars are not my passion a just love mine galant :D
so oil level should reach hot when left on N till engine is warm

best to take it for a drive to warn it up but if yours goes into limp mode N flashing light then this might not be possible.

when the gear box is warmed up. cycle through the gears a s well P to R to N to D to 1 to 2 to 1 to D to N to R to N to D to N. then check the level.

Check your fluid level first. It could be overfull and coming out the breather.

Fluid is gone now , not much left I think ( only 1,2 R its working no gears above 2 , when HOT dipstick is dry , but there was non oil marks on the road left under the car

Check the ATF cooler pipes. You may find one wasn't secured, or split - if that's the case and you have lost most of your fluid, you will probably need a new transmission.

where I can find this pipe?

any fluid will tend to move down. Try to find the highest point where there is fluid or wetness.

The ATF cooler pipes run up from the bottom of the car to the top right of the radiator (when looking at the engine from the front of the car). These pipes are metal with some rubber pipe joints. I suspect that one of them may be split or not attached properly.

so I might no need to replace gearbox? :>

find the leak first.
Fix it, then fill it using the correct method.

See if its still an issue.

The fluid can be reused if you need to change the gearbox.

Silver is no good, indicates metal deposit I'm afraid.

What was wrong with the first gearbox? I agree, silver is not a nice colour for oil to go. Gearbox slipping could be a mismatch with the gearbox. There are several fundamental types of gearbox, you need to find one that matches your original although sometimes matching the ecu too can solve the problems. Some boxes have OWC stamped on them (One Way Clutch) some have external filters....... Check out this list to see what you had and what you have:

Any sp3 compatible fluid is sufficient. You aren't replying to helpful questions on here, are you taking in the info? What was original box code? What about the tcu? What was the replacement? What is the next replacement? If you buy a mismatched gearbox you are throwing more time and money away.

The replacement box was from my '96 VR4 - I never noted the gearbox/TCU part numbers but the chassis code was EC5A-00001230 if anyone wants to look it up in CAPS.

where I can locate codes on the gearbox?
Should I replace gearbox with ecu at same time or use my old ecu?

TAR

some people have sen issues using replacement gearboxes without the associated ECU. There appear to be a few minor variances in the gearbox codes accross the range depending on the date of manufacture.

If you can get a box with an ECU that would be your best option.
