Hi all, as title suggests, I got a crappy aftermarket audio/ CD player unit on my recently acquired 1997 Galant VR4, and I would like to replace it with the Panasonic one I have in my Galant Vrg. I just want to know if anyone knows how to change the head units at home with ease? Step by step with pics would be nice :P Cheers.

For 20 odd bucks you can buy looms which plug into the standard loom. Then the wires are clearly marked which one goes where.
By far the easiest and tidiest way of doing.
Or you can just copy the wiring of the car you pulled the unit out of

the head unit will be fixed into the dash by mounting brackets so it cannot just be pulled out. Remove the gear leaver surround by prising it up gently. Then you can remove the front panel (which included the air con controls) by pulling forward from the bottom. Remove the ashtray to get somewhere to grip. You will then be able to remove the head unit.

Are you sure it just pulls out? Mine doesn't seam to want to come out and not keen on breaking it. The part around the gear lever was simple enough. I have a 98 if that makes any difference.

If it's never been out before, it will be stiff. Pull evenly from the bottom, and it *will* unclip :)

This is my dash. I'm just wanting to be sure you are talking about this one. I don't want to rip it apart

Yep, that's removable as per the instructions above. I also sometimes open the glove box and push on the back of the climate control unit.

Just remember when pull the main piece away there are 2 connectors and 2 bulbs attached to the cigarette lighter and ashtray. You will not get much play with these as they are not that long.

Then there is the tube on the right handside of the climate control unit and the 2 connectors in the back of that.

I got it off, it literally just pulls off lol. Had to use a bit of force but now I know. I will not be so hesitant next time.

Cheers guys
