Hi!

A little video of my project. – The rust on my roof and rails are now gone, and it was time to put back the ceiling.
Before that, I spent around 2 hours of cleaning and removing the original noise reduction.
The knocking sound test before and after removing the fabric was with my ears the same.

After removing the fabric, the ceiling was covered with StP Butyl and afterwards StP Bitumen.
It took me around 1-1½ hour. – But I was nursing with the project.

The knocking sound test tells the difference. On the road, you cannot hear the raindrops, and bass is improved.
– But that is pretty much it. I cannot notice a major noise reduction, but it is a great feeling knowing, that the roof has been noise reduced.
In addition, when you close the door… Oomph.

Sounds good. I have sound deadened my floor and doors and it certainly did help. It's not a miracle cure but it is a nicer place to be.

My doors and floor have already been done. - My major issue is the Wind noise from the doors... - And the wheels.

I understand that wind noise can be helped by inserting tubes into the rubber door seals. I haven't tried it yet. Road noise I don't know. If you find a good way of doing that then please let me know!

The tubes are already in. - A quick, cheap and easy fix, but it only makes a difference with speed over 130 km/t in my opion...

2 years ago I took on this same challenge with the Galant (saloon) I bought (now sold for parts).

Top to bottom covered and hollow spaces also filled with rubberized felt.
The biggest change I found was overall more quiet, but the true culprit seems to be the wheel arches, which would need some insulation from the outside-in! I never got to it, but still would like to try that with my VR2 as road noise is the biggest factor IMO.

I also removed the side skirts at some point (to do some body repairs) and that was also a huge (nagative) change. So maybe adding some inner-insulation in the skirts would help too.
