just wondering if an open port 1.3u cable will work to reflash my 1997 vr4 legnum? one came up for sale locally so thinking about buying it but not sure if it'l work on my vr4. he used it to reflash his mitsubishi airtrek

here is a picture of what it looks like. Will i need anything else to reflash my ecu if this is the right cord?

I think i have the metal case ecu by the way but i will buy a plastic case ecu if that is what's needed

No, that won't work.

You need the open port 2.0 cable. http://evoscan.com/evoscan-gps-obdii-cables/details/17/1/performance-vehicle-pc-diagnostic-interfaces/tactrix-openport-20-usb-cable
or
http://www.tactrix.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=17&Itemid=53

You can re-flash the metal case ECU, but to do so requires you to ALSO purchase one of these (I don't know which one, you would have to ask someone else for that) http://evoscan.com/evoscan-gps-obdii-cables/details/40/1/performance-vehicle-pc-diagnostic-interfaces/mmcflash-usb-dongle-and-software-for-reflashing
Note: the metal case ECU has limited modification support - absolutely no code changes. Personally I think you are better off going for the plastic case ECU
