The rust has set in and the car is done.:klingon:

I made a misstake with a mechanic and he refused to give the car back for years and left it outside standing and the rust has destroyed it.
Which makes this harder is it drives better than ever.... drove it for 6 months after and she is parked up now. parts will be striped off

Anyway I have spent serious money on this car over the years and have loads of nearly new parts in the car.

I am in Ireland not Dublin anymore CAVAN now. but i can post most parts wherever possible just ask and ill get them to you.

some details on ebay also.

i have attached pictures of the car. not current ones but i will try and get current ones up too if you want body parts.73225732267322773228732297323073231

Ouch, that looks worse than my last car. I had the hole in the boot floor issue too! I got rid of that due to rust, took it to a repair place who inspected it and said it was way past the point of economical repair. You could always get a clean VR4 and swap all the parts over? I've been quoted 3-5k for a clean import depending on mileage, spec etc. All you would need is a boggo auto and then swap everything over.

Abarthisking

At the end of the day......they are making no more.

So the cost of the repair for one of the rarest version its worth the time and money.

Yes it looks bad......I think you can get some of the body panels from the states and possibly from NZ or Australia.

Even import a rust free car and use it for parts.

I have a clean 2.0 02 FL saloon. im sure i can use what i need from that one. but i need to find someone to do the job. thats the problem at the moment.

i know i can get the rear outer arches from states have already ordered that. but i waited years to get this spec of the vr4 and i am not gonna let it die so if it requires it it will get it but its at a level i can't manage and getting someone will to do the work over here is tough.

is there anyone in uk that would take this on? i would transport it across if i could find a good guy to do the work?

reality strikes when you get loads of people requesting parts off you car and you actually have to consider what to strip off first and where to store it shipping packages etc.

we are must appear like recycling vulture kings and queens when it comes to VR4s, all the parts off your car will get reused on VR4's to allow them to live on into the future. but it is always hard to let go.
how much do you want for the whole car, i am sure some would buy it off you and then stip it themselves.

DeanH23
03-09-2015, 01:31 PM
Yes i understand but... hard it is. i want to give it the best shot i can at saving it. if i can't ill put it back up for sombody who wants it for parts.

Davezj

personally i would either fix it, or brake it yourself if you have the space.
you will probably get about £800 for it if sold as a whole car with that amount of rust.

let you heart rule try and get it fix.

Finding guys willing to pay a lot more that 800 for the whole car. yes i decided today that ill give it a shot at least it is something that your heart rules your head.
as people say its rare and they are getting thin on the ground. ive spend a huge amount on car already so spending more is not gonna make any difference.

It ultimately gets to the stage of cost of repair vs value, well it did for me anyway. Given the amount of mods on your car and the level of rust it might be more cost efficient to just get a donor VR4 and move the parts over. I guess it all depends on the labour costs as the place I went to weren't cheap and the price rockets when you have to get parts fabricated if they aren't available etc.

Sorry to say this but I think this car is far beyond any repair. Rust has taken too much of it away already. Alone swapping out the strut bar tops in engine bay...

If you compare a rust free car from Japan plus swapping over performance bits this will end up more or less at the same amount but with a shell which you can rust proof yourself and which has no bad "surprises".

Before you commit loads of money for repair panels etc, you MUST check the amount of rust damage to the subframe mountings, especially at the rear. I have seen a car with much less rust evident that had almost no metal left on the subframe to chassis mounting points. It was a death trap!

If these are badly corroded, you may as well just break the car.

I repair rust on Galants on the daily basis. I love those cars and wish that they will stay on the roads forever... But trust me, this one is gone. You can't fix it. You should have given it underbody protection as soon as it got in your driveway. Now it's too late.
I will be able to repair this kind of damage in a week or so. BUT... Only year later, there will be new spots and new repairs. And it will go on like that untill you'll finally give up...

If I were you, I'll buy fresh rust free jap import (with moon roof, of course) and swap all the good parts on the new chassis. And sell the rest of spares here :)

If you have a garage to house it and want to learn how to weld this is the opportunity. I have revived cars in far worse condition than this in my time. I used to be into Lancia's in a big way... and you think this is rusty. Don't get me wrong most of them took between 10 & 12 months to sort out but they all were good cars in the end. I also taught myself how to weld.

Hi Dean, how much for a set of door rubber? are they in good condition? concerning your problem my advice is you better swap chassis but with the one with chassis code ECXX otherwise its a PITA to make FWD to AWD conversion. Other than that i think you wont find any difficulties doing that swap, even a novice mechanic or you + manual book would get the job done with no real problem. All you need is proper tools, 4 jack stand and engine crane.
