I think my gearbox speed sensor is starting to fail because when I nail it sometimes the speedo needle dies or sometime it rises and falls and then catches back up to the speed I am doing.

Before it would just stop working while driving.....now it ok for 99% of the time....it just sometimes jumps up and down when hard driving.

I own a manual 1996 VR4 is the sensor the same as a Lancer Evo 4 part number MD757541?

I already have the KPH-MPH converter just in case this is at fault.

I was thinking the sensor had come loose and was jumping out of place.

Confused

It's more than likely the KPH->MPH converter that is at fault - they do have a habit of this.

This is also a lot cheaper to replace initially ;)

Thanks.....I was edging towards this as the problem.

I have one so this is next weekends job.

As above much more likely to be the converter.
