View Full Version : ANNOUNCEMENT: CVR4 membership overhaul from 1 January 2016; and other changes

elnevio
12-12-2015, 11:00 AM
There have been many discussions behind the scenes about the future of the CVR4 membership system, mainly due to the large burden of dealing with the multi-faceted physical side of the memberships, but also due to the way the dynamic of the club has changed over the last two or three years. It has become apparent that a pared-down version of the membership is the most appropriate way forward.

As such, with effect from 1 January 2016, the annual UK/RoW membership fee will be reduced to £10.

The main online benefits, i.e. access to the various members' areas, including articles and guides, supplier discounts, etc., will remain. The physical benefits, i.e. membership cards, choice of free gift, letter, will be scrapped. Fear not though, the goodies will not disappear completely, but more on that further down the page.

New members and future renewals

New members will no longer be allocated a membership number. I am not aware of anywhere really needing the membership number for discounts, etc. If necessary, proof of membership can be confirmed by admin should a supplier require it.

Previous new members and renewals made that haven't received a physical membership pack

While having already benefitted from access to the technical areas, etc., any member who didn't receive a pack will receive another year's membership, free of charge, and these will be actioned steadily over the next month or so. Any member who has joined/renewed more than once, will receive the relevant multiple thereof.

New Zealand & Australia memberships

These are presently dealt with differently, requiring a manual activation. We are looking at getting this automated in the same way that the UK/RoW is. This will be progressed as and when, but hopefully sooner rather than later.

CVR4 Shop

The shop will be updated during the New Year with the new goodies. Members will of course get discounted prices on items therein. :deal2:

Facebook changes

The Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/clubVr4/ will continue as it is, posting pics of members' submissions etc., for now.

However the Facebook For Sale/Wanted group will be closed - the forums can and should be used for selling/buying stuff.

Of more interest to many of you, the main CVR4 facebook group will become read only with only posts by admins being allowed - these will be along the lines of pointing group members towards the forum for things that may be of interest, such as the recent expression of interest thread for cruise control, and generally promoting the Club and the forums.

This is because the Facebook group is a mess. It was only ever intended for users and members of the Club to use, and is much harder to police with the volume of inane posts and the total lack of any useful order.

Thanks for reading and for your continued support. Please contact us if you have any questions!

I'd like to say, I approve of the changes, I don't need stickers or a keyring, the reason I pay my subscription if for the information that this site holds. I looked at the FB thing and didn't get on with it so left it alone since.

Keep up the good work for all of our sakes :)

I agree with all above, but just one point.

Insurers such as Adrian flux, usually ask for a club membership number!.
Sometimes for discount, but also as proof of club membership when looking for agreed value insurance, Is it a big hassle to keep and give out membership numbers?, ( no cards or anything physical, but assign a number to a member, like in your personal avatar bit where it is at the moment)

Is it a big hassle to keep and give out membership numbers?, ( no cards or anything physical, it's Asian a number to member)

If you click on your profile the URL contains your membership number (or at least this is how it is done on other forums I'm a member of).

Edit, actually, just look to the left of this text or is this manually added ?

Won't new members still need to be issued a number for discounts that request a membership number.
However I have never been asked for a membership number when claiming discounts.

All the rest sound perfectly sensible.

Remember my offer nev elnevio to source some club stickers for inside and outside fitment. I am not promising anything but I do have local vinyl wrap and decal specialist near me. I can enquire about price and quality to see if they can give a competitive deal.
I think I still have one of the stickers that did not peel off the backing so I could not fit it.

I am asking if that will still be there!

The membership number is manually added, but it automatically appears on the profile info once you have one. The likes of Adrian Flux can check the forums as they are a site sponsor and see if people are members or not.

I'm not planning to amend the appearance of the membership number as it stands. As I work through the new members, I will look at applying membership numbers after all, but it's not a definite. Easier to say that it's being dropped - but it could stay.

I am quite proud of my membership number, the lower the better, it just show others that you have been around for a long time.

My membership has just expired. I was going to renew but shall I hang on now as I was one of those who have never received any pack?

Think the ideas above are sound. I, like most others are happy to pay the membership fee for the forums and tech info rather than the frilly bits.

Not had any internal stickers from my 2 renewals yet. Not that fussed mind. Have used my membership no to get a quid off here and there with Camskill in the past.

The UK/RoW membership changes have now been implemented in the back end. I hope!

If anyone spies any reference to £20 or the membership pack goodies, please post up here, preferably with a link and screenshot.

I have recently (December) insured through A Flux and apart from being a little inept (took nearly 3 wks), I did get my agreed value insurance and they didn't ask for a membership number. Just as well really as i have no idea what it is/was.
As for the facebook site i do go on there regularly as I am an avid FB'er and find it to be quite useful for bits from people who are not club members. Q, Can this VR4 forum be linked to any other such as the Evo forum, for instance if you join this one it auto links to theirs and visa versa. As it happens i am in both as parts there can be used on our cars.
As for membership packs, never had one never pestered for one either.
As a short footnote, I would like to express my gratitude to all the people on here for all their help in the past and look forward to lots more in the future/Wyhy .
Particular thanks to the admin, it's a tough job to manage a live site. I'm sure i speak for all when i say well done and thank you for keeping us going.

Finally. HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. HAPPY MOTORING.

Neither!

I will do it manually. I've been very busy with work, but I have most of next week off, which is when I am planning my next full-on membership attack. :)

Joey please understand we are "ALL" volunteers including in Australia/New Zealand reps

Now comments like that really don't go down well with club members

So if you are not entirely happy with the situation then you can ask for your money back

It's your choice Joey ?!?!

Its been over 2 weeks since I have made payment and I haven't received membership status. No one has even replied to the multiple PM's and emails I have sent. What other choice do I have? I'd be more than happy to receive a refund at this point.

I would like the NZ/Oz side of things to be automated and with a reduction in price. But it's still the old system for now. OnBoost! is the memberships person for this and still has to manually activate memberships.

Sorry, I have been poor at sorting this out, but the extra year will be added at some point, regardless of whether any subsequent membership renewal has been paid. :)

Hi Keith,

Sorry for the delay - there was a difficult-to-track-down technical issue which was preventing the Memberships from being able to be updated.

I've extended your Membership for a year from today.

Please let me know here if you experience any issues (this is the first Membership I've amended, so hopefully I've done each step correctly!)
